I am a single mother of three children—ages 17, 14, and 3—and our dog has been a cherished part of our family since we brought her home at just 5 weeks old, six years ago. She is not just a pet; she is my fourth child, my kids' sibling, and our emotional support system. Recently, she developed a 1-inch mass on her lower stomach, which has us all very concerned. Because she was not fixed, her chances of it being cancer are increased by 50 percent, according to our vet. My children and I are worried about her health and what this could mean for our family. I've reached out to Red Rover, the Humane Society, and every nonprofit or organization I could think of, asking for help to pay for the surgery and testing she needs. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get assistance so far. Lately, I've noticed that at night, with the air conditioner on, she wakes up panting and dry heaving. Some days she won't eat. She still tries to be her loving, playful self, but tires out easily and has become extra clingy toward me. Some nights, I lay with her and just cry, worried about what the future holds. The funds raised here will cover the cost of removing the mass and testing it to see if it is cancer. If it does come back as cancer, some programs have said they will help with ongoing care or treatments, but we need your help to get to that point. My dog means everything to us.
