Steve is a great guy and he's doing it tough, so your support means a lot!<strong><br /><br />Steve's Story<br /><br /></strong>On New Year's Eve in 2002 Steve was rushed to hospital. He'd been feeling unwell for a while but that evening he collapsed and after some tests, the doctors told him that his kidneys had failed and he needed a transplant. In November 2003, after eleven months of dialysis, Steve received his transplant. His father had donated one of his kidneys. Everything seemed fine.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30844346_1530612393505664_r.jpeg" alt="30844346_1530612393505664_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><em>(Steve and his Dad)</em><br /><br />In January 2004, only a couple of months later, a weekend surgery to correct a lymphatic fluid drainage problem turned into two months in hospital. Things had gone wrong in the surgery and it had damaged his new kidney. This time, it was a slow decline in his kidney functions.<br /><br />With care and careful management, Steve was able to prolong the life of his transplanted kidney until January 2007 when he had to go back on dialysis. <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30844346_1530612641838831_r.jpeg" alt="30844346_1530612641838831_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><em>(The dialysis process)</em><br /><br />This time he was on dialysis for a little over four years. As Steve has put so succinctly to me a number of times, most days he woke up feeling "like a bag of assholes." Three times a week Steve would have to travel to to the clinic for a four hour stint, although eventually he got a home machine and would have his four hour stint. Once he got his own machine, the frequency of dialysis was able to be increased to six times a week, keeping Steve healthier. <br /><br />In 2011, Steve received a phone call from the clinic. A donor kidney had become available. The operation went well and all was good. <br /><br />It was after this second transplant that Steve's two children were born, Jack and Joey.<br /><br />In 2016, Steve started feeling run-down again. His regular appointments at the transplant clinic showed that his kidney was slowly declining, so with a new team of doctors they started investigating into the decline of not only this kidney, but his original one as well. After a lot of testing Steve was diagnosed with a form of lupus, an auto-immune disease where his immune system produces an excess of antibodies that attach themselves to his kidneys, causing inflammation, pain and eventually, destroyed the organ completely (Membroproliferative Glomular Nephritis) (MPGN)<br /><br />After further blood tests by several agencies across America, the doctor's could not determine the exact nature of Steve's kidney disease - only that it cause MPGN to slowly kill any kidneys that came into his body. Which also means that should he get a third transplant, it may be attacked too.<br /><br /><strong>What we want to raise the money for<br /></strong><br />Steve returned to dialysis in October 2018, and costs (out of pocket and after insurance) about $1200 a month. At this stage nobody is entirely sure how long Steve will need dialysis for. Additionally, they already have over $7000 in bills waiting to be paid for the testing, medications (epogen) and hospital visits they've already had to go through.  Steve also recently got a bill for $14,000 from DaVita for dialysis services. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30844346_1569431210638393_r.jpeg" alt="30844346_1569431210638393_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30844346_153061303098644_r.jpeg" alt="30844346_153061303098644_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><em>(Dialysis cost in 2011 - Before Insurance)</em>

Help with Steve's kidney transplant

<p>Hello, this is the Doney family; Daniel, Amber, and their five children Odin (14), Molly (12), Elianna (10), and twins Bree and Quinn (9) and they need some financial help. In the past month their lives have been turned upside down due to a very shocking cancer diagnosis for Amber (41). 
</p><br /><br />
<p>Amber worked for 15 years as a Nurse, 14 of them at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse before recently deciding to take a position at Tully’s Good Times in Fayetteville so she would be able to spend more time at home with her children. About one month ago Amber noticed persistent pain in her left underarm but thought she had just pulled a muscle. When the pain did not go away, she discovered the source was a lump in her left breast. After a call to her doctor the next day, began the scariest next few weeks of her life full of mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsy, waiting…surgeon, oncologist, CT scans, waiting…., MRI, Bone scan, and you guessed it more waiting. Amber was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma grade 3 Stage 4 estrogen and progesterone negative HER2 positive that had metastasized to her lungs and liver. This cancer is fairly rare and pretty aggressive. Amber has had her port surgery and her first cycle of chemotherapy already and it has only been a month since she first felt the lump. Amber will also need to undergo a liver biopsy along with chemotherapy cycles every 3 weeks.

<p>With all the appointments, tests, and recovery Amber has been unable to maintain her Job at Tully’s and Dan has missed countless days at his job at Farmer’s Insurance accompanying her, to her numerous doctor visits.

Mother of 5 Needs Help Stage 4 Cancer

<div>The 72-year-old, internationally-respected Disney historian who has authored thousands of articles and dozens of books about all things Disney, has had a series of major medical issues and is in need of financial help to pay his bills.

<div>Jim hasn’t had any major problems prior to this, but an accident at home in February sent him to the emergency room and led to a series of discoveries of serious medical concerns. Treatment for his initial fall uncovered multiple major arterial blockages, leading to unexpected open heart surgery where Jim had a quadruple bypass. While Jim continues to fight to recover, despite occasional setbacks, it was just discovered that—not only has he contracted COVID—but he also has stage 4 inoperable colon cancer that had spread to his liver. Thankfully, the COVID is asymptomatic due to Jim’s having received all of his vaccinations. Unfortunately, the cancer had appeared and grown in the time since his last colonoscopy. Jim is now undergoing chemotherapy to try to shrink the tumors to allow for further treatment. For the last several months, he has been unable to even walk because his legs are too weak.

<div>Because of this situation and the fact that all of his materials and his clunky old desktop computer are at home, Jim has been unable to do any writing, which was the main source of his income. Unfortunately, that has not prevented bills from accumulating for his house and the copayments for medical expenses. Medicare is covering most of the hospital costs, but not all. It’s expected that the final total of Jim’s medical costs alone will be tens of thousands of dollars.

<div>Jim remains in good spirits, and is trying to do what he can to get back to some level of normalcy. Even the smallest contributions can add up and help Jim recover so he can get back to writing.

<div>Jim continues to fight as hard as he can, but the fact that he can’t work and generate income is a drag on his spirits. He’s frustrated because he has spent most of his time in a hospital bed being poked and prodded without being able to rest or be productive, and the available TV channels leave much to be desired.

<div>Jim is grateful for all the people who have bought his books and supported his work, which helps to keep his spirits up. He’s being assisted by his younger brother Michael, but Jim is divorced and has no children. Anything that you can spare to help Jim out would be tremendously appreciated.

<div>It’s expected that Jim’s household bills will accumulate to about $25,000 before he’s able to start generating his own income again, and the medical bills may run $35,000 or more. Even if we don't hit that amount, every dollar raised is a dollar that Jim won't be in debt when he returns home.

<div>Hi there. My name is Tom Aaberg, and for the last 2 years I have been battling a very aggressive stage 4 colorectal cancer. We have tried everything from surgery to medical trials, to radiation, and of course different types of chemotherapy - be it intravenous or in pill shape, but every single time the cancer has grown resistant and come back stronger and more vicious than before. As I am writing this, I have barely eaten anything. The only thing I have been doing is drinking various fluids and taking my medication. Honestly, I don't know how much longer I have left. Except that every single day I get worse and worse.

<div>Natalie and Jason’s story is full of love and joy. They met in architecture school, fell in love, and built a life together in Syracuse NY. Their shared passion for adventure and discovery brought them around the world together and led Natalie to co-found The Sweet Praxis Bakery. Amongst all this, they were married on a beautiful spring day at Green Lakes and brought two beautiful children, Ella (4) and Finlay (18 months) into the world. Their everyday life with each other and their children, along with their dreams, was full of optimism, warmth, and happiness. They had a wonderful future ahead of them. Tragically, cancer came into their lives and turned everything upside down.

<div>Natalie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on June 17th and spent the summer battling it at Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester NY, fighting for her family, for her children, and for the future, she and Jason had planned and dreamed of. Tragically, the cancer was unbelievably aggressive and Natalie lost her life in early October. Jason, with help from family and friends, is left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives, the lost dreams, and their children without Mommy.

Remembering Mark Spelman

<p>I am starting this campaign in hopes of helping my friend Bill Dustin recover from his fight with Lyme Disease. Bill is a husband, and father of three children. He has suffered from Lyme Disease (LD) since 2013; the disease was in his system for 6 years before he was officially diagnosed in 2018, after suffering from several years of insomnia, severe fatigue, Parkinson’s like symptoms (shakiness, tremors, etc.), nausea, brain fog, and dizziness. Because Lyme was in his body's systems for almost 6 years before being diagnosed &amp; treated with antibiotics, he has continued to endure debilitating and long lasting effects almost every single day.  Recently, his symptoms have been getting worse — memory loss, neurological issues, hives, random swelling and small seizures (“brain zaps” as they call them.) He is being tested for epilepsy. As someone who has long suffered from chronic illness myself, I know how demoralizing and exhausting being sick all-the-time is.

<p>I’ve set up this GoFundMe in the hopes of raising the funds necessary to assist Bill in becoming a patient at the Stram Center for Integrative Medicine in Delmar, New York. The Stram Center focuses on chronic Lyme Disease — testing and healing from a whole body approach. <p>Due to integrative medicine not being covered by traditional insurance, the out-of-pocket cost is very high. This isn't something Bill can afford right now on his own. The initial 4 visits (consultation, testing, and develop of a plan) is upwards of $3,000 and each additional visit is then another $750. I'm budgeting for the initial visits and two follow-ups, plus expenses, medicines, etc. for a goal of $5,000 (<em><strong>UPDATE 10/26 - GOAL TO $10,000</strong></em>) to cover the medical costs incurred.
</p>

<p>I know that living with these symptoms has impaired his life - it's become difficult to work, it's become difficult to be the man he wants to be for his family - his wife, his kids, his friends... living with a Chronic Illness is an extremely draining challenge, and if there is a way to offer his relief and help, I want to give him the best chance he can get. He's been very generous to me in the past with my own struggles and I can't think of someone I would want to pay forward to. It’s costing a lot more than original expected and I haven’t even started my main treatment plan yet (IV antibiotic therapy and hyperbaric oxygen) in order to rid my body of Lyme, the newly found tick-borne illness Babesia, and other toxins. I did pick up and pay for some supplements as well as 5 different oral antibiotic prescriptions today in order to simply start the healing process. With my diet changes, I have found that the severe daytime fatigue isn’t as bad, but the joint pain, tremors, insomnia, and seizures haven’t gone away.  This is going to be a long process and I truly hope to feel like myself (again) sooner than later. Our wonderful friend and band leader, Caleb Foarde, underwent brain surgery on June 26, 2020 to remove a tumor. The mass was found during an eye exam after months of pain, discomfort and increasing vision problems. In true Caleb form, he was worried about missing the 2020 competition season before surgery, and began drumming and playing competition music as soon as he woke up. <br /><br />Caleb will began additional treatments and therapy to help him March On! Voltage Video games is an independently owned and operation store in Syracuse NY. Over the past decade, they have built an amazing community based around their store. As many of you know, our dear friend Ashley has recently been dealing with serious health issues.   She has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and mitral valve regurgitation. Due to the seriousness of her condition, on March 25th she was transferred from Syracuse's Upstate Hospital to Columbia Hospital in New York City.  Columbia Hospital is considered one of the best heart failure/transplant clinics in the world.  We are seeking donations to assist Ashley and her family with the large amount of expenses that they have and will incur throughout her recovery. They're calling it the Hundred-Year Storm; it hasn't happened in nearly 100 years, and may not happen again for another 100!<br /><br />Remnants of Hurricane Norbert met with our seasonal monsoon weather, and caused torrential down poor, nearly 5 inches of rain dropped in a matter of hours! Streets turned into rivers, homes began to flood, many families were without power and had to evacuate!<br /><br />Arizona home insurance doesn't cover flooding by default, and those caught in this storm are left to foot the bill alone!<br /><br />That's where you come in... I'm a local Art Teacher, with a meager new-teacher salary, trying to provide for my wife and two young boys. We're caught in a pinch... the bit of wiggle-room I had in my paychecks has been going toward our roof and air-conditioning payments, which both needed replacing in the last year. Unfortunately we aren't able to afford another "small monthly payment" to cover the costs of the storm damage...<br /><br />We're not asking for much from each person. But if you could each pitch in a few dollars, I'm sure we could get through this together! It would mean the world to us! Especially the boys, as they like to ruff and tumble on the soft carpeting, and won't be able to do that on the now rough cement floor.<br /><br />With the help of some supportive neighbors and friends, we have ripped out the carpeting in 5 rooms, and will soon need to do the same with rotting drywall.<br /><br />Help us rid the home of the smell of mold and mildew, and give our boys a safe and comfortable playing environment!<br /><br />Our costs will include. Re-flooring for 5 rooms. Replacing drywall, and retexturing/ painting the walls. Replacing the "flooded" water-heater and washing machine.
