Teresa Ubieda, Carlos’s beloved aunt in Venezuela, recently suffered a devastating fall that resulted in a fractured femur. The severity of her injury has left her unable to walk or stand, and she urgently needs a prosthetic hip replacement to have any hope of regaining mobility. Unfortunately, the prolonged immobility has caused her condition to worsen, leading to intestinal issues, kidney failure, and a dangerous decline in her overall health. Every day without treatment increases the risk of serious complications, making this situation truly urgent.

 In Venezuela, this is not simply a matter of waiting for medical care—it is a matter of being unable to receive treatment without first paying for it. The estimated cost of surgery, hospitalization, prosthetic, specialized care, medications, and necessary treatment at a private clinic ranges from $8,000 to $10,000 USD, an amount that is far beyond what our family can afford. To make this situation even more heartbreaking, Teresa is also the primary caregiver for one of her sisters who depends entirely on her. Her recovery is not only vital for her own health, but also for the well-being of another family member who relies on her daily care.
