<div>In October 2023, Fiadh was a happy inquisitive little girl, who loved going to pre-school and playing with her younger brother Barra. Fiadh’s appetite in the previous few weeks had dipped and her energy levels were nowhere near what they used be. When Fiadh got a pain in her abdomen her parents knew something was not right. Fiadh went to her local A&amp;E in Tralee and was admitted. Shortly after an ultrasound was conducted Fiadh was transferred via ambulance to Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital for further scans and tests. It was there that her parents heard her diagnosis and the word cancer, a word no parent should ever have to hear. Fiadh was diagnosed with Stage 4 High risk Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. The severity of her diagnosis meant that she would endure 18 months of high intensity treatment which started immediately.

<div>Fiadh has bravely faced 17 months of intensive treatment, which included chemotherapy, surgery to remove the primary tumour, a stem cell transplant, and radiotherapy. She is now in the final phase of her treatment-immunotherapy. Despite the challenges and exhaustion, Fiadh has maintained a positive attitude throughout. Although her energy was often low, she found comfort in simple joys like playing with her dolls and making jewellery, learning with her teacher in Crumlin, arts and crafts, reading stories with her parents, and FaceTiming with her brother. These moments kept her strong and connected as she navigated this difficult journey.

<div>In May 2024, the arrival of her baby sister, Aoibhín, filled Fiadh with immense pride and happiness. Alongside her brother Barra, she now had a new sister to share her love for dressing up, dolls and jewellery. Aoibhín's birth gave Fiadh a renewed sense of purpose, lifting her spirits on the hardest days and helping her get through her treatment in hospital so she could return home to be with her brother and sister.

<div>Thankfully, Fiadh has responded well to her intense but lifesaving treatment, despite the incredibly challenging times she has faced over the past 17 months. Fiadh continues to shine with her vibrant personality and sense of fun, and her unwavering determination to fight through this journey fills us with pride every single day.

<div><strong>What’s next for Fiadh...</strong>

<div>Fiadh's current immunotherapy treatment will hopefully be the final stage of her frontline care. Fiadh will then have her final set of scans and we hope and pray that they will show no evidence of disease. The next stage is to do everything we possibly can to prevent Fiadh’s cancer coming back after her treatment ends in Crumlin. Devastatingly, high-risk Neuroblastoma has a very high relapse rate, and limited treatment options if relapse occurs. This makes the long term survival rate unthinkable.

<div>There are maintenance therapies for Neuroblastoma available that aim to prevent the disease from returning. Unfortunately, children from the Republic of Ireland can only avail of these therapies through clinical trials in the USA. These trials are extremely costly, which is why we urgently need your support.

<div>We’ve set up this fundraising campaign, along with family and friends, called “Together for Fiadh” to try and raise as much money as possible to access these clinical trials. Fiadhs mam, Anne Marie Dempsey, has set up a new bank account for all monies raised to go into which will go towards the maintenance therapy Fiadh needs to beat cancer for good. However, if any additional money is raised, we will be donating this excess to 3 incredible charities: Aoibheann's Pink Tie, Barretstown and Neuroblastoma UK (fighting children's cancer).

Together for Fiadh

<div>On August 14 Will Nugent was diagnosed with cancer in the lung and brain. This news means that Will has had to make the difficult decision to permanently close his business and focus entirely on his treatment and battling this terrible disease.

<div>For the last 7 years, Will has brought joy to locals and tourists who have joined his fun and energetic tours of the River Suir. Like many small local business owners, Will has put everything into building this business and supporting his customers. The closure comes right at the beginning of peak season and a time where 90% of annual revenue would have been earned.

<div>This fundraiser is to support Will with funds that can replace a portion of the lost income from Suirvalley Adventures. Funds that can be used to support every day living, groceries, fuel, travel to and from treatment and maybe even for some fun and adventure. With Will's focus now on treatment, our focus is now on ensuring that he enjoys the highest quality of life possible during this difficult time. We want to create lasting memories, comfort and alleviate financial burden.

Fundraiser for Will Nugent

<div>On the 13th of June we will be cycling from Malin head down to Mizen head in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Ireland. Cancer has unfortunately had an impact on our lives in some way or another over the last couple of years and we are doing this cycle to raise funds for these two great charities.
</div>
<div>The cycle will take place over 5 days. We will start at Malin head and cycle from there to Enniskillen, covering just over 136km. From Enniskillen we will make our way further south to Athlone (126km) and then on to Limerick (121km). The last two days will bring us to Killarney (112km) and then on to our destination – Mizen head (111km).
</div>
<div>These charities rely on the generosity of the public to provide cancer support and services. The demand for these services has increased significantly since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. We would really appreciate if you can donate to this fundraiser, however small will have a big impact. All proceeds will be split evenly between the two charities.

A 150km walk from our home in Muckerstaff to Maynooth, where Niall had been a student for almost 3 years. Day 1 will be on road to Cloondara and the remaining 6 days will be via the Royal Canal Greenway. <div>I'm Louise, 37, from Tralee in Kerry but have lived in Galway for the past 16 years.  I have Lyme disease.  It was on 8th December 2019, after being bitten in Dangan sports ground in Galway, I was given the devastating news by my G.P. that my results for Lyme disease were positive.  I couldn't believe it, but to be honest I did not panic as I've never been sick and felt that whatever came along, I would be able to fight it............I had no idea what terrifying days lay ahead for me.

<div>Not many people will know this, but the last 2 years have been a living hell for me and my loved ones.  They've watched me go from a busy, happy young woman who would love to train, walk, play with my best friend /dog Alfie, sing and work a full-time job to become bed bound, unable to move with crushing fatigue.  I was unable to shower or eat for almost 9 months.  Life for me stood still as my symptoms progressively got worse.  I'm currently taking 25 pills a day along with many other herbal protocols and tinctures. For the past two years basic medicine for Lyme has cost me a minimum of €800 per month, every month without getting better.

<div>Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can, if caught within days, sometimes be treated successfully with antibiotics however in many cases, as in mine, this was not the case and I've gone on to develop chronic Lyme disease.  Chronic Lyme disease is not recognised in Ireland and therefore there is no public treatment available bar high priced private treatment. Dr Jack Lambert, infectious disease consultant is the only person in Ireland treating people presenting with chronic Lyme disease.  I have been under the care of Dr Lambert for 14 months taking treble antibiotics daily along with multiple other supplements and medicines.  However, unfortunately this has not worked for me.

<div>Lyme disease feels like having your worst hangover every day, waking up every morning feeling like you have 20% of your normal energy, fainting episodes, heart palpitations, unexplained bruising all over my body and regular air hunger which causes devastating panic attacks

<div>The only hope I have to recover fully from this disease is to travel to a clinic in Germany namely "St Georges Clinic", where I will receive 3 weeks of intense treatments including hyperthermia, which is where they heat the body up to 42 degrees, this kills the bacterium borrelia burgdorferi which causes Lyme disease.

<div>Lyme disease is an illness that you cannot see by looking at me, however this disease attacks the individual both mentally and physically.  My hormones have been hugely impacted by the disease-causing horrendous depression and anxiety.  This along with so many physical symptoms have caused me to reach terrifying lows that only those close to me have witnessed.  I'm a very happy, positive person with a loving family, partner, and friends, however when faced with the notion that literally no one in the country could help me with this illness, all hope disappeared, and the depression took over.  Many nights I literally wailed in my mother’s arms and prayed I wouldn't wake up in the morning.

<div>I'm saying this as I want people to know how devastating this disease is and to hopefully, with enough public awareness, the HSE will eventually have to start treating chronic Lyme disease appropriately in this country.

<div>Germany for me is getting my hope back, I have read countless stories of men and women like me ,getting their life back from doing this treatment.  I need to get to Germany ASAP as unfortunately Lyme has now, after 2 years, reached my brain and is causing neurological symptoms such as memory loss, cognitive  and sensory problems.

<div>This illness is horrific and if nothing else I hope to raise awareness that this can happen to anyone and I would encourage people to become tick aware particularly in Galway where it has been noted to hold the highest number of infected ticks of any city in Europe!!!  Tick Talk Ireland has been an invaluable source of information to me on a very lonely road of Lyme where everyone I turned to had no answers/help for me.  They are a voluntary organisation that are helping people all over the country feel less alone with this awful disease.

Help Louise travel  to Germany for treatment

Starting from July 7th, I will be doing 8 triathlons in 8 weeks across Ireland. <br />This is in memory of my dad Tommy who passed away earlier this year in February.<br /><br /> <br /><br />While words alone can never do him justice, he was an incredible man with a great zest for life.
