Eric-Kimberly Dina

Welcome back to the amazing survival story of Eric Dina, "The Music Man". It has been almost 10 months since the stroke that left him completely disabled, in a coma and permanently confined to a hospital bed. When he woke up from his coma in January he was unable to move or communicate. In March he was moved from the hospital to a nursing home. With lots of Physical and Occupational Therapy, Eric has regained the ability to move his left arm, left leg, and the fingers in his right hand. He can tap a screen with a pen, and he is learning to feed himself. Through Speech Therapy, Eric can now speak small phrases in a whisper voice. In April, two nurses were able to transfer him from the bed to a tilt wheelchair for the first time, and now is working on learning how to sit up. Because of his extreme disabilities, Eric cannot come home to the house he was living in prior to the stroke. He will need a completely adaptive environment in a handicapped accessible home. Eric and Kimberly are waiting for an opening for this type of housing, but in the meantime she must find temporary housing for herself while Eric remains in the nursing home. Kimberly has been unable to work because making sure Eric is safe and getting proper care at the facility as well as participating in his therapy is a full time job. You can help make this transition possible by donating toward her living expenses. Our goal is to raise $14,120 by Labor Day. $2,000 will go to first and last month’s rent in a new apartment. $809 for moving boxes and supplies. $225 for cleaning the old apartment. $952 for movers, which includes piano movers. $630 for 3 months of storage. $6,000 for 6 months rent until disability comes through. $1,193 for 6 months of cell phone and utilities. $385 for gas and car insurance, and $1,926 for 3 months of car payments. Even though the road ahead is long, we are filled with joy and gratitude at Eric’s progress. We know that God and all of you have been with us the entire time.
