For nearly three years, my mom and I have been walking everywhere, trying to make ends meet and stay safe. In 2020, my mom was hit by a drunk driver and lost her vehicle. She never received compensation, and since then, we've had to rely on ourselves and rideshares, which haven't always been safe. We've had some bad experiences with Uber drivers, and walking has become exhausting and risky.
The past few years have been especially tough. We spent time in a domestic violence shelter and finally got housing, but all our funds went to a place that turned out to be unsafe. I was drugged by people in the building where we live now, and every day feels like a struggle just to get from A to B. My birthday is coming up on March 29th—I'll be 31—but I haven't celebrated in two years because of everything we've been through.
Having a car or even a rental would change everything for us. It would give us a safe way to get around, help us pay our bills, and even provide a place to sleep if needed. I'm on disability and my bills are high, so it's hard to save up for something like this. I'm reaching out for support, hoping that with your help, we can finally move forward and feel safe again. Any support means the world to us, and we're so grateful for anything you can give.
