We waited for him for an hour and he did not return. The hour turned into hours, we started searching for him, next day we found him <strong>lying in the street, the water mixed with his blood on the sand</strong>, When we found him he was dead, and his crime was trying to provide drinking water.

<p>My name is Billa, a 21-year-old girl from Gaza. I am a girl like any other in the world, full of dreams and hopes for the future. I was working hard for my future, excited to start studying at university, when the world as I knew it was swept away. Everything I had was destroyed, my home, my university, my city. The only thing that cannot be taken away from me is my determination to pursue my dreams and live a life worth living.

<p>My dream is to resume my studies, learn new languages, graduate and become a freelance designer, but right now my priority is to rebuild my life and provide for my family. I have a big, loving family who have always been my source of strength. I live with my seven siblings, my parents, and my dear grandmother. They are my life and I love them deeply.

Amal lives with her husband, Awadallah, and their three sons, Uday (5), Amr (4), and Shukri (1 years old). They are now in Rafah, displaced from their happy home in Khan Yunis. Amal is a teacher, who lost her school to the destruction of the occupying forces. Uday and Amr can no longer enjoy childhood or attend school. One year old Shukri can not stand due to malnutrition- he has not been able to thrive under these conditions.

Extreme heat, constant bombing, swarms of flies and mosquitos, starvation, dehydration, exhaustion, fatigue, destruction, and loss, is their new reality. Help them reach their goal, so they can evacuate and receive proper care. They deserve to live peacefully.The evacuation fee to travel from Gaza to Egypt is $5,000 per adult, and 2,500 per child. That is $17,500 needed for evacuation alone, all while the family has no means of income. The rest of the fundraiser proceeds are necessary for them to afford current means of survival, and to begin establishing their lives again after evacuation.

Rebuilding Hope: Support Elessawi Family in Gaza

The War in Sudan has created the World’s largest Humanitarian crisis. According to the World Food Programme 19 million people are facing extreme levels of hunger and very little international humanitarian aid is reaching the country.<br /><br />In Response to this tragic situation in our native country, we have setup the Khartoum Aid Kitchen initiative to feed the hungry in the greater Khartoum area. <br /><br />Our first Kitchen in Al Hitana Omdurman has been a success. Alleviating hunger in the area by feeding 1,250 of the most needy people daily. The fortified stew we provide with bread is not only intended to provide sustenance but to also be nutritionally balanced. <br /><br />Since our kitchen in Al Hitana opened we have proceeded to rapidly setup new kitchens across the Khartoum State area. With the hope of being able to feed as many hungry people as possible. <br /><br />We currently directly run 12 fully fledged Kitchens as well as 5 partner kitchens which we support by covering their rice needs.<br /><br /><b><i>Directly run kitchens:</i></b><br />

<div>Since last October, my life has changed like never before. Instead of thinking about my dreams and goals, all I think about now is how to save and provide for my family, who face unimaginable hardships every second.

<div>Our suffering is something that words cannot describe; How can I describe the grief that overwhelmed us after losing our home and our family shop, the terror we felt every time we had to flee to another home, the fear of hunger, diseases, not to mention the agonizing psychological distress that made our lives feel hopeless. <div>We were displaced from our home on the fifth day of the war. The area of the house was classified as a dangerous area, and the occupation forced us to evacuate it. After that, we had to vacate our place more than five times, and each time, we were given another chance at life. Every time, we lost part of our dreams of returning, and part of our memories. Due to sudden evacuation decisions, we also lost part of our personal belongings until we no longer had anything but our souls. However, we move from one place to another, and each time, we hope that the displacement will be the last.

<div>My friend Ahmed and his family are living the worst days of their lives under bombing, extermination and famine. Since after October 7, my friend Ahmed and his family have been displaced more than 9 times, and his family is suffering from a life of war, as he was in Rafah before his recent displacement, and escaped imminent death more than once. Ahmed also worked as a mechanical engineer in a Gaza company before the war. He, his wife, their child Adam, his father and his mother were living in a beautiful, quiet house before October 7th. but now,,,

<div>They are going through difficult days in which they lost their home, their savings and many of their relatives. They also lost their second son after his wife, Lana, miscarried her fetus due to fear and the lack of necessary treatments, as she was in her third month of pregnancy. They were forced to flee from Gaza City, south of the Strip, to tents several times in light of the interruption of the basics of life. They became without shelter, food or drink after large parts of their home were damaged, the home in which they lived the most beautiful days of their lives.

<div>Now, after 9 months of displacement, Ahmed and his young family are suffering unimaginable levels of pain and destruction through Israel's campaign of bombing, extermination and starvation. Their lives were turned upside down. Their home was destroyed, Ahmed lost his job, and they lost many friends and family. Ahmed and his family are now struggling to obtain food, drink and other necessities, and are suffering from difficult weather conditions.

<div>On Thursday, April 13, 2023, my nephew Ralph P Yarl was on his way to pick up his twin younger brothers from their friend's house a few blocks away from his house. He didn't have his phone. He mistakenly went to the wrong house, one block away from the house where his siblings were. He pulled into the driveway and rang the doorbell. The man in the home opened the door, looked my nephew in the eye, and shot him in the head. My nephew fell to the ground, and the man shot him again. Ralph was then able to get up and run to the neighbor's house, looking for help.

<div>Unfortunately, he had to run to 3 different homes before someone finally agreed to help him after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up.
</div>

<div>Ralph Pual Yarl is a fantastic kid, and I am not just saying this because he is my nephew. He truly is. At school, he is a member of the Technology Student Association and Science Olympia Team. Jazz and competition band. He is a section leader in the marching band; a scholar and one of the top bass clarinet players in Missouri. He recently earned Missouri All-State Band recognition with an honorable mention. He plays multiple instruments in the metropolitan youth orchestra. He is a 2022 Missouri scholar academy alumni. Ralph can often be found with a musical instrument. He loves them all.

<div>Last summer, Ralph attended Missouri Scholar’s Academy, where he got a full college life experience. His goal is to attend Texas A&amp;M to major in chemical Engineering. When asked how he plans to get into this university, he said, “Well, if they have a scholarship for music or academics, I know I can get it.”

<div>Ralph's teacher and friends describe him as “ a kind soul,” “quiet,” “friendly,” “well-mannered,” “always willing to help,” “super smart,” and a “musical genius.”

Student shot in Athens, GA

<div>(Written by Mele) Last month I was having pain in my right lower stomach and went to the emergency room when it got too painful for me to walk. I sat in the waiting room for seven hours until I got a bed around 1:00 a.m. Just sitting in the waiting room cost me almost $6,000. After the doctors took a CT scan, they rushed me in for emergency surgery around 3:00 a.m. to remove my appendix. My healthcare bills came out to be an excess of $65,000. Although I have insurance, my surgery was only partially covered. The emergency room staff recommended surgery immediately due to the enlarged size of my inflamed appendix. Thank God I was able to get it removed immediately before it burst, which is fatal. As many of you know, when you’re faced with a life or death situation, there are bills that aren’t covered by insurance. This was something that was quite shocking, as the amount of my overall medical costs well exceeded $65,000. In addition to my medical bills, I temporarily lost my income due to my time off of work to recover. Not only was I unable to work at my local coffee shop, but I also wasn’t able to teach my hula or 'ori students, which I love. All of the donations from this fundraiser will go to my total unpaid healthcare bills. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much)!

Emergency Surgery and Healthcare for Mele

<div>Hueco is a short film detailing Black life in Waco from a variety of years using vignettes of factual history and imagination to exhume the lives of those hidden in libraries and reroot the Black and Indigenous perspective. In the words of Saidiya Hartman, “The intent of this practice is not to give voice to the slave, but rather to imagine what cannot be verified, a realm of experience which is situated between two zones of death – social and corporeal death – and to reckon with the precarious lives which are visible only in the moment of their disappearance.” (Venus in Two Acts)<br /><br />A few years ago my great grandmother shared a document with me which details an interview with my four time great grandmother, Sophia Bereal, who was born in 1821. She spent early years of her life enslaved and at some point on an Indian trail migrating South with her tribe and father who was an Indian chief. She eventually found her way to Waco and lived there for over eighty years. She lived to be 113 years old.

<div>From the document ... “”I have raised thirty-nine children”, was a remark that started us greatly. Upon further questioning we found out that these had been illegitimate children, whom she raised up to one, and often twelve years. This colored woman now lives with her grand-daughter, none of her children being alive today.”

<div>Alongside her story, there are 14 others I read at Baylor’s Texas Collective Library of formerly enslaved Black people. In a slowly gentrifying place formerly lived in by the agrarian Indian tribe, the Hueco Indians, it is important to acknowledge and preserve the existence of the individuals who originally resided in the area. Though the purpose of the document was to uncover the hardships of formerly enslaved Black people in Waco, small moments of their day to day lives and personal histories shined through each story. These small glimpses left me with questions and a desire to understand what wasn’t documented by the white narrator.

If all we know of ourselves is terrifying violence and a constant fleeting joy, then what of everything else? <div>Although Connor showed tremendous academic potential at a specialty school for highly gifted students (New York’s High School for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering at City College), he chose to forgo college to volunteer and then work for Habitat for Humanity. Connor also lent his talents to the Four Corners School, working with Native American youth to rebuild and rehabilitate state park trails.
