Benjamin Hays

My name is Benjamin, and I’m reaching out because my life changed dramatically a year ago. I was shot, and as a result, I lost both of my kidneys. Since then, everything has been turned upside down—I lost my family, my home, and my vehicle, and I’m currently going through a divorce. It’s been a struggle just to get by each day. Ever since my condition, I’ve found myself more vulnerable and unable to do the things I used to—like checking out a vehicle to make sure it’s reliable. I spent most of my savings on a car that only lasted about a month before the motor went out. It’s been hard to know who to trust, and I’ve been taken advantage of more than once. Right now, I’m staying with friends who have been incredibly generous, letting me sleep on their couch and sharing their food. They help me get to my medical treatments, but I feel bad relying on them so much. I want to be able to take care of myself again, see my kids more often, and start rebuilding my life. Reliable transportation is essential for me to get to my treatments and doctor appointments, and I also need help covering the costs of my medicine and medical bills. I’m 45 years old and have never asked for help before, but I’m at a point where I can’t do this alone. If anyone out there can support me, even a little, it would mean the world to me.
