Women's ice hockey is rapidly growing in the United States and Canada.  Successes from the USA Women's Ice Hockey Team and Canadian National Women's Hockey Team along with advances in the Professional Women's Hockey Player's Association, and National Women's Hockey League have increased interest across the continent.  Ladies at Virginia Tech have been deprived of an opportunity that other schools have had for years, or decades.  A women's hockey program at Virginia Tech is long overdue.  <br /><br />This is a great opportunity at Virginia Tech because not only do we attract interest from girls who have been playing for years, but also those who are willing to learn.  It is a wonderful thing to be able to grow and pass on the sport to passionate individuals.<br /><br />We have organized a team, and are ready for our inaugural season. We have been able to get this far with help and support from the VT Men's Hockey Team, the local hockey community, and the individuals' themselves.  As a new team, we have successfully overcome many hurdles, but there are many more to come.  We have the interest, we have some gear, we have a game schedule, but we are restricted by our lack of finances.  In order to be a successful team, like our rivals at Liberty and UVA, we need your help getting off the ground.  We hope our team is playing for many years to come, so we need your help investing in our future.  In the near future, we will have to pay league dues, travel fees, ice time, insurance, and referees. Team members pay significant amounts as 'team dues'. <strong>OUR COMMUNITY POOL HAS BEEN VANDALIZED AND NEEDS YOUR HELP! <br /><br /></strong>Ferry Farm Pool has been a part of our community since 1957. Our sweet community pool has struggled many years to stay afloat but this is another level of need. Coming out of a difficult 2020 season combined with this horrible act of vandalism has us financially unprepared to say the least. <br /><br />From our pool board president: "I've lived in this area for nearly 45 years now and never been so upset as I was this morning. Ferry Farm swimming pool has not just been a community pool to me but more like Family. I've never seen such destruction as what I was greeted with today. If you or anyone you know has any information on this vandalism, please reach out to me via PM. It occurred last night, Friday May 7th. Suspect(s) will more than likely have red paint on their clothing, shoes and hands. If you live in the vecinity of the pool and have security cameras please check them for any suspicious activity from last night."<br /><br />If you'd like to become a member, we welcome you. My Daughter in Law, Eli Phillip's has been diagnosed with Invasive Cervical Cancer and needs to have daily radiation and Chemo also . Her daily round trips to Richmond is 4 hours round trip. My son does not get paid when he doesnt work. They have 3 small children and while other parents are getting kids ready for the new school year , Elizabeth wiĺl be in the hosp everyday. I will go stay with the kids for my son and her but they could use any donation for gas and also for times my son wants to be with her . She is in for a long battle and we could use all your prayers also! Thank you and God Bless you all ❤ From all of Elizabeth and Scott's family<br /><br />Update:<br />4/2019<br />Eli had over 40 radiation treatments back in Sept to Nov. But this recent scan shows still has some cancer in her cervix and cancer in h er lymph nodes now. She has had all the Radiation her body can take tolerate back in the fall. She has to have aggressive Chemo for a few months in hope to keep it from spreading further starting May 1st . They said it won't be cured but if they can get it from spreading further after all the chemo , she will have to be checked closely and continue on chemo pills indefinitely.  We ask for prayers and donations of any amount and pray this prolongs her life for herself and her loved ones . She has 3 young children ages 4, 8 and 10. <br />We thank you for you support and prayers.

Trying to survive cancer

UPDATE:  I had surgery on February 14th, 2017 and ended up being diagnosed with an extra-abdominal desmoid type fibromatosis. I was told it was cancerous and had a high reoccurence rate. Unfortunately, the tumor did come back and I had to have surgery again with Dr. Earnhardt on November 10th, 2017. They say it can still reoccur again and I will be following up with my oncologist, Dr. Mauer. Recovery was difficult but I was finally cleared by my surgeon to get back to normal activities. I was out of work for a great deal and still struggling catching up with the bills from the first surgery.  Asking for help is still not something I tend to do but any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and Merry Christmas/Happy New Year.<br /><br />I am a 25-year-old, single parent of three children, and asking for help. Most of us don’t expect to have health issues while we’re young, but at 25 I am going through one of the toughest health battles I’ve ever faced. This was the last thing I expected to happen to me or my family. On August 5, 2016 I was emitted to the Emergency Room for severe abdominal pain. X-rays revealed a tumor in my abdomen. At the time it was roughly 2 cm X 3.5 cm X 4 cm. It has since grown to 2.5 cm X 3.5 cm X 4.5 cm.<br /><br /> At the time of my diagnosis I did not have health insurance. The tumor caused me so much pain that I am only able to work a few days a week, and health insurance is expensive (as we all know). However, despite the expense, I decided to get health insurance to help cover the cost of the growing number of doctor’s visits and upcoming surgery needed to remove the tumor. I just want to be able to work normally again and be active with my children. The surgery costs $15,000 and my insurance is going to cover $10,000. That leaves $5,000 that I need to pay out of pocket and another $1,000 needed for associated bills and costs. As a single parent of three, this is not within my means, and I would like to reach out to the GoFundMe community for help. I am grateful that the tumor is small, but it is still dangerous to my health, extremely painful, and affecting my quality of life. <br /><br /> Dr. Daniels in the Stafford, Virginia area advised that I needed a tumor resection.<br /><br /> Thank you for reading my story and supporting my fundraiser for this surgery. Chris' Surgery Fund

Diane has a new job working on software development, web, and curriculum for the Avida-ED project at Michigan State University. Unfortunately, the project budget doesn't cover moving personnel around, so this move is on us. Between Diane and I, three dogs (Ritka, Beka, and Kenna), and one hawk (Rusty), there's a lot of logistics and a lot of stuff. <br /><br />One thing that would help a lot would be if we got a PODS 16' box and hired help on both ends to load and unload. So the GoFundMe target is the estimate for the PODS box moved here to there with six months storage, plus hired help for the load and unload.<br /><br />But anything would help. If you would buy us a cup of coffee to help boost our spirits, put in a few bucks.
