My name is Clarence, and I am a justice-impacted individual who was recently released from prison. Since coming home, I have faced many challenges in trying to rebuild my life. Despite my relentless efforts to find meaningful employment, it has been incredibly difficult. My criminal background has made securing a job one of the biggest obstacles I’ve ever faced. Employers often see my past as a red flag or a risk, and it’s been discouraging to be turned away time and again. But I want you to know that my past does not define my future. While incarcerated, I worked hard to develop life skills, character, critical thinking, communication, and conflict resolution skills to prepare myself for success upon release. I am committed to being a contributing member of society—someone who abides by the law and supports the community by demonstrating what true change and redemption look like.
This re-entry process has not been easy. I’ve reached out to government agencies and nonprofits that work in the re-entry sector, but unfortunately, they haven’t been able to provide the help I need. This has made my transition even more difficult. I also have a dream to pursue music as a career. I am a songwriter and artist who uses music as a way to express myself and connect with others. Music is therapeutic for me, and I believe it can help others, too.
Your support will help me cover basic necessities like food, hygiene, transportation, and secure housing. It will also help me continue my job search and work toward my dream of a music career. Any support that you can give will mean the world to me as I work to get back on my feet. Thank you all for being a part of this journey with me.
