<div>"I nominated my amazing husband, Lucas. He served 9 and a half years in the Navy before being medically discharged due to knee injuries. He has had multiple surgeries on both knees for torn meniscus and lives with daily pain. He will likely need another surgery in the future.

<div>We have four children together. Two of them we call our 'extra spicy' children, as they have Autism. In 2023, we were asked to take in two family members. Without hesitation, Lucas said yes. That brought our family to six children. He is not only a loving husband but also a caring uncle who puts family first.
</div>

<div>Since our family grew, I have had to reduce my work hours due to health issues for myself and one of our children. Lucas has taken on even more responsibility. He works as a teacher, supports his students, and continues his own schooling. Many nights, he only gets a few hours of sleep.
</div>

<div>Anyone who knows Lucas will tell you he gives freely and helps others without expecting anything back. He works hard to provide for us, but like many families, we live paycheck to paycheck. We have not been able to save for needed home repairs, and this has been heavy on him.

<div>Right now, we need to repair our front stairs, chimney, septic system, and oil system. I want to ease some of this burden for Lucas. He has done so much for our family, and I hope we can come together to support him."

Help Kim & Ken Rebuild After House Fire

<div>Hi, I am a 73-year-old male, <strong>diagnosed with advanced skin cancer with spread to bone marrow and lymph nodes</strong>. I've been living outside in a tent for the past year since my rental went on the market. I haven't worked since January 2024 due to the effects of the cancer. I've completed my carcinoma treatment, but it has spread to my lungs, lymph and bones. I came from Canada in 1975, applied for a social security number, was given a number, and started working. This year, I was denied SSI and advised to return home to Scotland, where I was born. Being that I am now being DENIED social security benefits,  I'm also ineligible for any housing or food stamp assistance.  I get food from our local food bank; however, in the past year, I've lost 30 lbs. I have one or two friends who help with small amounts of cash to buy cooking gas. He is now in critical condition, fighting for his life in the hospital.

<div>If the past week has taught us anything, disaster can suddenly turn life upside down, taking with it all sense of stability and reliability. On February 4th, the DeSante family endured a terrifying experience. While Sara was alone at home, a massive tree came crashing down on their roof, leaving a gaping hole in their home. Thankfully, Sara escaped physically unharmed, but their home did not.

<div>As you can see in the photos their living room along with their car were destroyed. This home belonged to Forest’s beloved father who only recently passed a year ago. In August of 2023, the DeSantes completed extensive and expensive renovations and moved in. They were finally settling into their new home when this happened.

<div>If you are fortunate to know Sara and Forest personally, you know exactly what kind of wholehearted people they are. They give without question and always show up for their friends, family, and community. Their kindness and sincerity are evident in the way they lead their lives and the way they have raised their sweet son, Jalen.

<div>The shock of this terrible incident is still painfully fresh but there is no rest for the DeSante family as they navigate insurance claims, tree removal, transportation, and most importantly, where they are going to live. They have been told to prepare to be without their home for the next year.
</div>

<div>They are “do it themselves” kind of people and rarely (if ever) ask for help. However, this is an undertaking of such magnitude that it’s important to recognize that there are times when we all need support.

California storm devastates local family's home

<div>Hi friends and family, in warp speed I learned I have cancer and my brain is only now grasping this discovery that was confirmed 12/12/23. I have already undergone a massive surgery (12/14/23) that resulted in the removal of a huge mass on my right ovary which also required the removal of everything thought to be affected by this mass. It is all in the very capable hands of pathology @ UCSF now and more clarity of what I’m facing will become more clear with what is found in pathology over the next couple weeks. I am currently still in the good caring hands of UCSF where I have had exceptional care team.  I’m looking forward to being discharged tomorrow to go home for continued recovery and a quiet holiday.  I have had an outpouring of love and support cradling me and have been both blessed and a bit overwhelmed by all of it. The gratitude I feel has no words sufficient enough. The care I have received is like nothing I have ever yet experienced. The speedy discovery, the expedited UCSF care (thank you Medi-Cal) and unwavering support by my family and friends. Maya has been my rock through every step of this journey thus far. I am aware I have a long journey ahead and this is just beginning. So much is still unknown and feels all very surreal.
</div>
<div>It seems the universe felt I had the strength to face this new challenge, relentlessly on the heels of what has already been one of my most challenging to date; a year of great losses and deep grief that had already been rather annihilating and transformative. But I am a fighter and feel confidently that this will not be my demise. My biggest challenge will be learning how to humbly receive, as I am much more skilled in knowing how to show up better for others. <div>Hello friends,  as some of you may already know,  my wonderful mother has been diagnosed with aggressive leukemia .

<div>I have held off doing this go fund me thing for months, but I feel now is the time. My mom Robin  has always been a  giver.  Raising me as a single mom, and being a mom to several of my friends.  After retiring from being a local chef and amazing caterer for Bill Graham and his bands, she joined  "food for families " in Bolinas where she volunteered to cook for families of need. Going to food banks, loading up her car with goods, bringing it back unloading it and coming up with the weeks worth of meals for 60 people,  and cooking it. (with the help of some kind friends) . She's an amazing grandmother to my boys, always available and present.  Teaching us all to be great cooks and have good morals. She's also a master gardener,  we have always had tons of food to eat out of the garden. She made it look easy, nurturing other human beings, family or not just came naturally. It is now my turn to heal and nurture her, and it’s a hard job! She has always been incredibly healthy and strong, so this leukemia thing is a real shock. I am taking good care of her, and honored to do this. However, as you can imagine, the emotional and financial stress is an every day struggle. Which is why it is time to ask for help. In order to be present and functional, we need to feel secure. With everything else we are facing, what we do not need is to be stressed out about having her basic needs met. This is where you come in, our beloved community. She needs an adjustable bed, good quality nutrition,  safe rides to doctors appointments and hospitals. If you can help in anyway we would be so grateful. If you aren’t, please share, or tell a friend who can. Send a card, a phone call, or a trip to the market. I sure do love my mom, she deserves the best. Working all my regular jobs while also being a caregiver is not sustainable. Please help us lift some of the financial burden. <div>Sweet pea left us this morning. Part of the decision making process with the surgery was that there was a 15% chance of her spinal cord being so damaged that it would continue to degenerate in either or both directions and if it headed upwards towards her lungs and head it would be fatal and very painful. We chose not to go forward for a number of reasons; it was a 50/50 chance in the best of cases but this chance of degeneration was a factor as well as the fact that her already bad front arms wouldn’t be able to support the rehab of her back legs. We had planned to bring her home and have her put to sleep surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of home, but in the morning as we got ready to come get her we were told that she did indeed have that degeneration happening rapidly towards her lungs and head. On one hand that meant we were not able to bring her home but on the other it meant we were given the grace to know without a doubt we made the right and only choice for her. We got to hold her and sit under an oak and a ginko tree while she passed away peacefully and feeling so loved.

We’re going to keep the fund open as there is still a significant bill for the MRI and other hospital charges as well as the end of life care itself. <div>Greetings, my name is Andre’ King and I’m raising funds to help my friend and brother Ras Zulu in conquering dis-ease. Zulu is one of the most genuine, loyal, jubilant, positive and humble humans I have had the privilege of knowing in this life. <div>The lockdowns of the pandemic hit us all hard but it hit Breeze and her family very hard indeed. Both she and her partner lost their full-time jobs and neither of them has found steady employment since, and because of the financial stress they have decided to live separately, which means Breeze is on her own with two kids, an 18-month-old and an 11-year-old.

<div>To make matters worse, three weeks ago a delivery truck caught their powerline and ended up yanking out their entire power box, and there has been a lot of red tape around a permit etc. to get power back to their home. They were put up in a hotel for the first two weeks but they've been back home for a week and the end is not yet in sight site. Imagine having a toddler and not being able to do your laundry at home, laundromats can be very expensive and that adds up! Also, your electric stove and oven don't work. They have a bit of light from an extension cord running to the church and that's about it so cooking good healthy food is out of the question and the fridge is not consistently on so it's become difficult to keep any leftovers. Expenses are adding up quickly and it would be a huge weight off her shoulders to have some help with rent, food, gas, laundry and even some new clothes for her son, who is just starting up sixth grade and growing exponentially every minute.

<div>With permission from Celia and Matt, we are creating a Go Fund Me page to help provide support to their family as they transition from Maui to Frankfort, KY. As most are aware, tragedy struck the Maui area through massive wildfires…especially the town of Lahaina. This is where Celia and Matt decided to raise their beautiful children and establish their small jewelry business. After the wildfires ravished the city, they lost their home and their business, but feel blessed to have their lives. Fortunately, they do have a home in Frankfort, but will need help with so many living essentials and expenses as they re-establish and rebuild their lives within the South Frankfort community. The Doss Family-Maui Fire Victims

<div>Kelly Sanders is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I have worked with her husband Dusty for close to 10 years, watching their family grow, seeing what a great family they have built, and raising three children, Jake, Brooke, and Jaxton. It saddens me to hear that Kelly has been diagnosed with breast cancer. This was a shock to kelly and the family. The hope is that the cancer is treatable and Kelly can fight it off with chemo. These treatments will require medical expenses and time off from both Kelly and Dusty. The last thing we want is for them to worry about money on top of going through such a difficult time. Let's come together as our Ben Franklin team always does and support Kelly and Dusty. No amount is too small.

<div>KAY’S UNEXPECTED CANCER DIAGNOSIS

<div>Kay and his family packed up their two beautiful children, Roscoe and Kadeus and all their belongings and moved across the country to Florida so that his wife, Nina, could pursue her career and passion as a midwife. Shortly after arriving in Florida Kay started experiencing some mild but unusual symptoms which lead him to seek treatment at a local clinic near his new home. The doctor suggested a routine blood panel. The panel came back and showed a high white blood cell count. Kay was referred to see a hematologist and underwent further testing and a painful bone marrow biopsy. On his  29th birthday (of all days) he was called by his doctor and told that he tested positive for Leukemia. Luckily, based on the tests the doctor is confident that it has been caught in an “early stage” and is treatable. The doctor put him on chemotherapy treatment which has been taking a toll on him. The side effects of chemo are some days overwhelming. Kay is an avid fisherman and an extremely hard worker, and a very active father, and he has reluctantly had to cut back on doing the things he loves. Kay now needs to go in for weekly blood draws and further testing and as of right now, there is no definitive end in sight. Additionally, Kay is the sole earner for his family and was doing everything he could to support his family while his wife is in school studying midwifery. However, in light of his treatment plan and the overwhelming side effects of chemo, he has had to cut back on work and is also trying to give himself the time to rest and heal as much as he can. Your generous donations will allow him and his family some peace of mind that the rent will be covered, and their kids can remain in daycare and help cover some of the medical bills that have started to pile up. Let's help lighten the load of stress caused by a life changing scenario such as this. We all know Kay is strong, and he will get through this but let’s try to help him along the way.

<div>Hi guys, me again. I wish that our country had a better system in place for when people have medical emergencies but alas, here we are. I am asking for help from the community. As most of you know Mirta suffered a stroke on Monday night. Right now I am not going to bother July, Fernando and Diana for too many details so I will share what I know. She had surgery to relieve swelling from her brain which went well. Mirta will be in the hospital for at least 2 weeks to monitor that there is no more swelling and that it drains properly. This will be a long recovery process with her likely not returning to work for at least 6 months and when she does, she will not be able to keep going with the pace she historically has. There are a lot of unknowns at this point and the most important thing is keeping her well and stress free, this is where you come in, our wonderful community. We need to raise funds for living expenses for the whole family, plane tickets for the kids to come home and just day to day living expenses of driving to and from the hospital, food and gas are already taxing their financial situation. Please dig deep friends, Mirta has loved us, fed us, supported us, cried with us……she is us. She is the heart and soul of this community, let’s do the one thing we can do and relieve any worries this family has about day to day living, because she would be the first to do it for us. Hay muchas incógnitas en este momento y lo más importante es mantenerla bien y libre de estrés, aquí es donde entras tú, nuestra maravillosa comunidad. Necesitamos recaudar fondos para los gastos de manutención de toda la familia, boletos de avión para que los niños regresen a casa y solo los gastos diarios de conducción hacia y desde el hospital, la comida y la gasolina ya están afectando su situación financiera. Por favor, profundicen amigos, Mirta nos ha amado, nos ha alimentado, nos ha apoyado, ha llorado con nosotros... ella es nosotros. Angelina and her two kids have lost all they own, including her 8 dogs and 10 cats. This is beyond tragic. It would mean so much if we could all raise enough to not only rebuild her business, but to keep her personal life and living condition stable for a few months. She has invested all her money into Bengals, all of which have crossed over. These alone cost around 4K and she had five in order to breed and make her money back. All the equipment to have a dog training business like kennels, leashes, gates, play pens, etc have all been lost. There were no boarding animals there, so it was only her animals that were lost but it has been so emotionally devastating. I also want her to feel like she has enough money for therapy if and when she so chooses. She had just made a Costco trip. Her car may or may not be working, we haven’t been able to discover that yet. So many have already reached out...thank you. I love this community and how even when you feel alone when something happens we all come together to help each other.

Our dear friend Patrick Nemec was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer just before the pandemic hit and has just finished 6 weeks of intensive chemotherapy and radiation. "Patty" is a warrior, he’s in good spirits and still somehow cracking jokes but he's extremely weak and suffering from chronic, often intolerable pain. He has no health insurance, is incurring thousands of dollars of medical debt and is living off the remains of his EDD unemployment money.<br /><br />No one should be having to worry about rent while they're fighting for their life but unfortunately, Patty hasn't been able to work since his diagnosis and needs financial assistance. A group of us have come together to support him in this critical time, we are raising money so he can focus on the most important thing: healing. <br /><br />If you know Patty, you love him, he's always been adventurous, funny and loyal. He was a gifted athlete — one of the soccer and baseball stars of our class, and an avid motocross, car and jet ski enthusiast. Patty is also a talented mechanic, who has spent his recent years working on high-end German cars. We're hoping with the help of the community, Patty can get back to the active life he enjoyed before this disease.<br /><br />We've connected him with a plant medicine nurse named Kelli Love who has helped nurture other cancer survivors back to health with her nutritional, health and recovery support. Patrick has noticed a significant shift in his energy and well-being over the past week of her support. Hello everyone. Once again, here I am trying to raise money to buy my daughter Ruby her Lyme Disease meds. Her fund is down to $60 and unfortunately that’s no where near enough to place the next order.  The fundraisers I usually do for her obviously aren’t happening due to Covid. Ruby is doing great, but it comes with a price of all the amazing supplements she takes on a daily basis. Currently  there are 9 she takes.
