<div>On Thursday, April 9th, 2026, early in the morning, our friend, Mark Devenpeck, lost his home in Altamont which was destroyed by a devastating house fire. While we are incredibly thankful that he made it out safely, he has lost absolutely everything—sentimental items, clothing, furniture, and his safe haven. He has also lost his cherished cat named Cow who actually help save his life by alerting him.

<div>Mark and the Devenpeck family are hardworking, kind, and always the first to help others. Now, he needs our help. He is currently staying at a neighbors home on Settles Hill in Altamont and is facing the overwhelming task of replacing every single item needed for daily life.

<div>During the time of this event, while being trapped in the second floor of this house, Mark had a moment with God where he wondered if this was his time. When he went to the corner room upstairs he opened a window and his roomate Chris was outside yelling that he had to get out. Mark said to Chris that he did not think he could get out and Chris countered that with “you can get out and have to get out.” Chris climbed up a tree, to the fence post and then the second story roof but fell backwards off the roof. Seeing Chris do this gave Mark the idea that if he could break through the window he had a pathway down to the ground. So he took his grandmother’s antique lamp with a hard base and used it as a battering ram, smashing the window until it shattered. He climbed out in bare feet, a pair of jeans and no socks or shoes. He and Chris were taken to the hospital and released the next day. He was told by professionals in this field that he had about 60 seconds left to live.

<div>My name is Kendall Johanna Vazquez. I am a trans woman from Mexico. I have faced years of torture, persecution, and discrimination against women like me in Mexico. I came to the U.S. seeking asylum to escape the constant persecution.

<div>One of the most traumatizing indents that made me flee Mexico and seek asylum here in the U.S. was when officers in Tijuana, Baja California, took me even though I had done nothing wrong. They broke both of my arms. They beat me badly and tortured me for several hours. They treated me worse than an animal. What they did to me was abuse of power by the government itself. I fled to the U.S. from police, this is one of the many incidents that happened to me.

<div>I now find myself fighting for my life once more in immigration court. As of 02/03/2026, I have been ordered to seek asylum in another country. I do not agree with this decision and now wish to appeal. Due to my mental health and financial difficulties, I am unable to pay the filing fee for the appeal and I am trying to raise $10,000 for my immigration attorney and my appeal

<strong>FOR KHRYSTA, AN ASK FOR MARIUS</strong><br /><br /> <br /><br />Dear Friends and Family of Khrysta, <br /><br />I feel like I have met a lot of you.  For those I have not met, I feel like I know you because Khrysta always wanted all of her friends to know about all of the people in her life that she loved.  I know how devastated we all are by her passing.  Reading all of the messages on social media, I couldn’t help but smile.  Anyone who knows Khrysta well knows, as so many of us wrote about, her zest for life, her radiant positivity and smile, her abounding generosity, her love of Love, and the courageous fight she waged that never relented until she drew her last breath.  <br /><br />Marius wants to celebrate and honor Khrysta’s life with all the people she touched.  Marius is such an amazingly selfless person.  His daily devotion and dedication to Khrysta were living proof of his love and commitment to her.  The more she suffered, the more he steeled his resolve to help her and love her.  I witnessed the many times and ways Marius did this without complaint, without expectation, and without re-numeration.  It was purely from his heart.  Marius bravely and humbly took on the role of Khyrsta’s primary care taker, assuming all of the undignified, mundane, and thankless tasks that go along with it.<br /><br />While Marius would never typically ask anything of anyone, especially regarding his love for and care of Khrysta, his caregiving came at a financial cost. Marius has paid a large sum for Khyrsta’s medical and living expenses.  He still has more to pay.  He has not worked for over a year in order to take Khyrsta to all of her treatments, appointments, and to be with her for all her post-op recoveries.  He is struggling to cover funeral costs and her remaining medical bills.  My response is to write this Go Fund Me to ask help for Marius and to honor Khrysta the way she deserves to be honored.<br /><br />In the tragic but somehow heroic circumstance of Khrysta’s passing, there is no one more worthy and deserving of our help than Marius.  He stated that he will only use any money raised to celebrate Khrysta’s life and to pay off the remainder of her medical bills and funeral expenses. If there is anything leftover, he promised to donate it in Khrysta’s name to USC Norris Cancer center for Cancer research, the hospital where Khrysta received her treatments..<br /><br />Khrysta was so lucky to have Marius.  If she was Wonder Woman, he certainly is Superman.  Khyrsta knew what she had in Marius; just as he knew what he had in her.<br /><br />Let’s help Marius by contributing to this Go Fund Me Page so we can all properly honor Khrysta.  We all love Khrysta.
