Hi my name is Bee and I am a single parent - I sent my two children to university and unfortunately they were means tested using my salary which is too much for one adult but not sufficient to support them both at university - every corner I turn - they take away more money. Family allowance taken away as a single parent even though a 2 parent family could earn nearly double what I do and still keep the money. The means tests are not combined as they are both at university together - so again costing more money. They got a scholarship and that was means tested and because they were not 18 when they started their studies - guess what they can’t get student loans even when they turn 18 - so this has meant I have had to support them financially - so for the last three years I have mounted a lot of debt by doing so and now I still work 2 jobs and am chipping away at the debt - it was in the region of £80K it is frustrating because if I did nothing to help myself I would receive
all the benefits from the state instead I get nothing and also have to pay back child tax credit. Literally every little bit of help has been given with one hand by the government and snatched back with the other. We have had on top of that a rough couple of years with 6 bereavements and o would like to be able to pay off my debts so that we can book a well deserved holiday and make some positive memories instead of constantly worrying about money.
I’ve added just some of the bills I’ve had to pay but I’ve have had fees, accomodation, food, transport and kit to pay for as well as general other costs. Rent for one child was £900 per month with bills on top of that to pay.
If you can help I will be eternally grateful.
