<div>In 2027, something extraordinary will happen for a choir from Kilkenny!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Lady Desart Choir has been invited to perform at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York — one of the most iconic concert halls in the world. For any choir, performing on that stage is a once-in-a-lifetime honour, and for our singers it is a dream come true.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Founded in 2017, the Lady Desart Choir has grown into a vibrant community of over 75 singers aged from their twenties to their eighties. What brings us together is a shared love of music, friendship, and the joy of singing. Over the years we have become a cherished part of Kilkenny’s cultural life, particularly through our much-loved annual Christmas concert in St. Canice's Cathedral, which now sells out every year and has become one of the highlights of the city’s festive season.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall is recognition of the musical journey we’ve been on together, and we are thrilled that our first concert in our tenth year will be on such a global stage.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However making that journey across the Atlantic is a major undertaking. Like most community choirs, we are entirely volunteer-run and self-funded. To take up this incredible opportunity, we need to raise funds to help cover the essential costs involved in bringing our singers to New York.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>What your support will help fund</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Funds raised will help cover key costs including:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>✈️ Travel to New York for participating singers
</div>
<div>Accommodation for the weekend of the Carnegie Hall concert
</div>
<div>Participation and preparation costs associated with the concert
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every contribution — large or small — helps bring us closer to that unforgettable moment on stage.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Why this means so much to us</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For many of our members, the Lady Desart Choir is more than just a choir — it is a community. Our singers come from many walks of life and range in age from their twenties to their eighties. Some have sung all their lives; others joined simply for the joy of trying something new. Standing together on the stage of Carnegie Hall will be an extraordinary shared moment that none of us will ever forget.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>How you can help</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you are able to support us, we would be deeply grateful. Your donation will help bring the voices of Kilkenny to one of the world’s greatest concert stages. And if you cannot donate, simply sharing this page can make a huge difference.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Together, we hope to carry a little piece of Kilkenny all the way to Carnegie Hall. Thank you for believing in what we do and for helping us make this dream a reality.
</div>

Kilkenny to Carnegie Hall – Support the Lady Desart Choir

<div>Thanks so much for all the donations over the past few years, they’ve made such a difference.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Myself and Barry are heading back to South Africa with Mellon Educate this November to help build schools in one of the townships, and we’re currently fundraising for this year’s trip.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mellon Educate does incredible work providing education to some of the most disadvantaged children, and having been on three trips before, I’ve seen first-hand the impact these donations have made.
</div>
<div>Every single penny is hugely appreciated and goes directly to great use.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We’ll be sharing lots of photos so you can see exactly where your donations have gone and the smiles they help create.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you so, so much,

Mellon Educate 2026 Trip

<div>This Saturday I will take on the Ring of Beara cycle in support of Mellon Educate.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This will be my 16th trip to South Africa supporting Mellon Educate and Matthew’s 5th — something we are both incredibly proud to be part of. Over the years we’ve seen first-hand the difference these fundraising efforts make to children and communities who need it most. Giving children the opportunity to receive an education greatly improves their chances of escaping the poverty trap they have been born into.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Ring of Beara is one of the toughest and most beautiful cycles in Ireland, but every hill climbed and every kilometre covered is worth it when it helps support the amazing work Mellon Educate continues to do.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you can, please support our fundraiser with a donation of any size. Every contribution helps and is hugely appreciated.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thanks so much for the support, encouragement and generosity. It really does make a difference.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Stay Lucky, Dave.
</div>

Mellon Educate

<div>I am raising funds to be able to go to South Africa for a week long volunteer project this March with Mellon Education Programme, who work to improve quality education by building schools and launching literacy programmes. We will work directly with local schools and mentor young learners in Cape Town.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Your support will cover the cost of this amazing opportunity. Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated and will directly contribute to this impactful work.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you
</div>

<div>To all of our friends and family, people we have met along the way and the kind friends of friends we haven’t even met yet, this is a message from Barbara and Brian:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As many of you know by now, Barbara has been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The support we have received in the months since Barbara’s diagnosis has been monumental, and has helped us through some of our most difficult days. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Now we come to you with a new and urgent request.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you know Barbara at all, you know she’s a force of joy, positivity, and determination. She’s always got the biggest laugh in the room, she’s the one most likely to be up on the dance floor, the one always with her heart and door open to anyone who needs it. As the 52-year-old mother of three amazing teenagers, and a successful marketing manager with a career spanning decades and continents, she’s always had bundles of energy and responded to challenges with her trademark buoyancy and grit. She’s always been the life and light of the room.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But sudden debilitating headaches earlier this summer landed us at Blackrock Clinic A&amp;E, where a tumour was discovered that led to her hospitalisation at Beaumont. That’s where we received the devastating diagnosis of glioblastoma. Since then, she’s received amazing care at St Luke’s and at Beaumont, where she has undergone radiation, chemotherapy, and treatment for clots in her lungs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now we urgently need your help to access further treatments that could greatly improve Barbara’s quality of life and her chances of beating this disease. We want to do all we can to give Barbara time: with her children, with her family, with all the people who love her. And we want to give the chemotherapy treatments a much-needed boost in this battle against a very aggressive cancer.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But between travel, consultations, hospital stays and specialist therapies, the cost of these treatments has ballooned, and is not fully covered by the public health system or private insurance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>So we come to all of you to ask for your help and are so grateful for all you are doing to support us. Whether it’s donating to this GoFundMe—every euro counts and it all adds up to make a huge difference—sending us positive messages and love, or simply keeping us in your thoughts, we appreciate all of you. Thank you for being by our side as we face forward into the battle of our lives.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank You
</div>
<div>Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us. Every contribution, message, and share helps us fight this battle together.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With heartfelt thanks,
</div>
<div><em>Brian, Barbara and family.</em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>[This GoFundMe was organised by Aoife McCormack, Fiona McCann, Pat Doherty and Ria Cusack at the request of Brian and Barbara.]
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Part 1: What the Funds Will Be Used For:</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>- Hyperthermic treatment in the UK (Phase 1): </em>
</div>
<div>At University College London Hospitals, this treatment gently heats tumour cells, making them more sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. While not a cure for glioblastoma, it can help treatments work better, improve immune response, slow tumour growth, and improve quality of life. Estimated costs (treatment, travel, accommodation): approximately €40,000.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>- <em>Dendritic cell vaccine in Germany (Phase 2): </em>
</div>
<div>Doctors create a personalised vaccine using Barbara’s own immune and tumour cells. This helps her body’s defences recognise and attack the cancer, offering hope of slowing its growth and improving quality of life. Estimated costs (treatment, travel, accommodation): approximately €80,000.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>- <em>Associated care and support needs for Barbara.</em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Commitment to Transparency:</strong>
</div>
<div>We are deeply grateful for your support and will post regular updates here so that everyone who contributes knows how the funds are being used. A separate bank account is being created, monitored by four friends to ensure the highest governance standards.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>What Happens if Circumstances Change?</strong>
</div>
<div>Glioblastoma is unpredictable, and treatment plans may evolve.
</div>
<div>We have, to the best of our ability, forecasted anticipated costs for treatments in the UK and Germany. If, for any reason, we cannot use all of the funds raised for Barbara’s care, <strong>any remaining balance will be donated directly to Brain Tumour Ireland to support research that could help Barbara and others facing this disease and potentially help make complementary treatments currently only available abroad, accessible in Ireland.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Part 2: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)</strong>
</div>
<div><em>Who will receive the funds?</em>
</div>
<div>All donations will go directly to Brian and Barbara to cover treatment, travel, accommodation, and related medical expenses. A separate account is being used so the funds can be managed transparently.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>How will I know how my donation is being used?</em>
</div>
<div>We will post regular updates on GoFundMe so that supporters can see progress, treatment milestones, and how donations are helping.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Are donations tax-deductible?</em>
</div>
<div>Because this fundraiser is for an individual, donations are considered personal gifts and are not eligible for tax relief.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Can I help in other ways?</em>
</div>
<div>Yes — even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others or sending a message of support makes a huge difference to Barbara and our family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Hyperthermic Treatment FAQs</strong>
</div>
<div><em>Is hyperthermic treatment safe?</em>
</div>
<div>Yes. It is non-invasive, painless, and generally well-tolerated. The main side effect is a warm sensation in the treatment area. Patients remain awake and comfortable throughout.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Does it cure glioblastoma?</em>
</div>
<div>No. Hyperthermic treatment is not a cure. Glioblastoma is an aggressive cancer, and there is currently no known cure. However, this therapy can make chemotherapy and radiotherapy work more effectively.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Why isn’t it widely available?</em>
</div>
<div>Hyperthermic treatment requires specialised equipment and expertise. At present, only a few centres, such as University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and some clinics in Germany, provide it.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>What are the potential benefits?</em>
</div>
<div>- Tumour cells become more sensitive to treatment.
</div>
<div>- Tumour growth may slow down.
</div>
<div>- Some patients experience improved quality of life and extended survival.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>How is the treatment given?</em>
</div>
<div>The patient lies on a treatment bed, and focused heat is delivered to the tumour area. Each session lasts about an hour, and several sessions are given over weeks or months.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Why is fundraising needed?</em>
</div>
<div>This treatment is expensive and not fully funded by the health system. Travel, accommodation, and associated care costs add further pressure. Donations will help make this treatment possible and give the family more precious time together.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Dendritic Cell Vaccine (Germany) FAQs</strong>
</div>
<div><em>What exactly happens during treatment?</em>
</div>
<div>A blood sample is taken, and immune cells are grown and programmed in a lab with tumour-specific information and a harmless virus to enhance their power. These are then injected back into the patient as a vaccine.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>What does it aim to do?</em>
</div>
<div>It helps the immune system recognise tumour cells, allowing it to mount a targeted attack, similar to how traditional vaccines prepare the body for infections.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Is it a cure?</em>
</div>
<div>No. It cannot cure glioblastoma. But it may improve how the body fights the cancer — and has shown promising results when combined with standard treatments.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Who offers this treatment?</em>
</div>
<div>IOZK in Cologne, Germany, is one of the few centres using this approach. They are known for combining the vaccine with other immunotherapies for a tailored approach.

Help Barbara Access Vital Treatment for Glioblastoma

<div>Hi , As most of you know my daughter Lucy and her husband had their baby boy Toby 7 weeks ago who was diagnosed with Propionic Acidaemia. (PA) is a rare inherited metabolic disorder, which affects the protein pathway (can affect heart, brain, bone marrow etc.). It is a lifelong, life-threatening condition. The main complications associated with propionic acidaemia include recurrent episodes of metabolic decompensation with illness or fasting, cardiomyopathy, movement disorders, bone marrow suppression and recurrent pancreatitis
</div>
<div>Currently they are battling with the hse to supply Toby with a life saving drug called Carglumic acid.
</div>
<div>This drug if approved will hopefully keep toby stable at home while they are working on long term treatment options .
</div>
<div>The process has been started for liver transplantation which unfortunately is not carried out on the Island of Ireland , this will mean frequent travel and a long stay in London .
</div>
<div>The other option currently being explored is clinical trial MRNA therapy based in Manchester.
</div>
<div>Both of these treatment options will be time consuming but also extremely costly
</div>
<div>If anyone had the ability to financially assist Toby on his battle we as a family would be extremely greatful
</div>
<div>Thank you ❤️
</div>

<div>Hi my name is Natasha, myself &amp; my partner Rob are raising fund to help further the research of Alpers-Huttenlocher. On the the 1st of June I will be running the women's mini marathon in Dublin as part of our effort to raise funds and will throughout the year aim to keep taking on challenges to continue raising more funds.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All funds raised will be donated to the Noah Jordan Foundation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Noah Jordan Foundation was setup by Ben, Natasha &amp; Freddie after they too lost they're son to AHS. They're goal is to: To raise £100,000 (UK Sterling) in 12 months to fund a 3 year research fellowship (PHD) into Alpers Huttenlocher Syndrome under the guidance of Professor McFarland. <a href="https://www.tnjf.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://www.tnjf.org.uk/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.tnjf.org.uk/</a></a>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our beautiful daughter Sophia was born Aug 21st 2024, within a few hours of her delivery. Her nurse noticed some issues - Sophia was rushed to the Neonatal Ward ICU - For days and weeks they ran every test they possibly could to figure out what was causing Sophia's issues. While they continued to investigate Sophia's issues they asserted us Sophia was stable enough to come home. We had two beautiful weeks of her home with us &amp; we'll treasure these memories forever.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However, one night Sophia suffered a massive seizure <em>(It was her first of many seizures)</em>. We rushed her the regional hospital in Limerick but here they were unable to control her seizure, they quickly acted &amp; she was intubated and rushed to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Finally a diagnoses was made, Sophia had a rare and incurable genetic disease caused by issues with the POLG gene leading to her diagnosis of Alpers Huttenlocher Syndrome (AHS).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>AHS is a mitochondrial disease that is part of a larger group of conditions collectively known as mitochondrial DNA depletion disorders. It is most often caused by mistakes in the DNA of the POLG gene and is part of a spectrum of POLG-related diseases. There are a number of other, extremely rare, genetic causes of Alpers’ syndrome. The three major clinical features associated with Alpers’ syndrome are severe epilepsy, loss of developmental skills (developmental regression) and liver failure.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our mitochondria are essentially the battery of our cells. This meant that Sophia's mitochondria cells were not producing enough energy. The parts of the body commonly affected are those that have the highest energy demands, such as brain, muscle, liver, heart and kidney.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>When given Sophia's diagnoses it was explained to us that in Ireland they have 1 new case between 18-2 years and that Sophia was the youngest case they're team had seen as she was displaying symptom's since birth. Typically the symptoms don't present until at least 6 months - 1 year.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sophia was a fighter.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For 3 months and 2 days she fought hard. She absolutely amazed us all with her strength. In those final hours one of her doctors came to us and said he had never seen someone so tiny fight so hard. She really was a fighter.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sophia passed away 23rd November in our arms surrounded by love. Her suffering had come to an end &amp; she could finally rest in peace.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There is no cure for Alpers Huttenlocher Syndrome, the only treatment at the moment is symptom control until the affected passes.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In honour of Sophia, Noah and all those taken to soon we want to help Ben, Natasha &amp; Freddie raise funds to support the 3 year research fellowship into Alpers Huttenlocher Syndrome. <strong>Please join us in this by donating and asking your family and friends to also donate. </strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We thank you for your support.
</div>

For Sophia.. Our Warrior Princess

<div>On the 6th of October 2024, while in Sicily, Hannah was completing her final long distance training run for the Dublin marathon. Sadly she never got to finish the run.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Only several kilometres into the run, while crossing at a pedestrian crossing she was struck by a car and sent flying approx 15 feet across the road, landing on her head.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She suffered devastating brain injuries and underwent 3 hours of life saving neurosurgery where a large piece of her skull was removed in order to access her brain and relieve the pressure. The piece of skull has yet to be replaced. Following her neurosurgery she was transferred to ICU where she remains today.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The initial prognosis was not good, but the Neurosurgeons in Sicily said they considered Hannah to be like their little sister and vowed not to give up hope, her survival was their top priority.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since the initial surgery Hannah has undergone several additional surgeries including a tracheotomy and fitting of a catheter to her head to remove excess brain fluid, she is receiving frequent CT scans in order to monitor the swelling on her brain however, she has remained in a coma since the accident.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are beginning to see some glimmers of hope as she has started to react to touch and is making some minor movement, what her recovery will look like is still unknown.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hannah is an amazing young woman and her strength and determination is what has kept her with us. She’s a fighter who is making her family prouder day by day at how resilient she is. She will be utterly devastated when she learns that she missed the Dublin Marathon which she was due to complete 10 years after her Dad completed it, both of them dedicating it to Hannah’s grandmother Caroline.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hannah’s Dad (Kevin), Mum (Vanessa), Brother(Dylan), Sister(Lily) and Boyfriend (Cathal) are all in Sicily with her, visiting her in the ICU whenever permitted and hoping above all hope to see even the tiniest improvements each day.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This gofundme is on behalf of Hannah and her family to support them with their expenses.
</div>

<div>We will use this page as a way to
</div>
<div>communicate updates.

<div>Fundraiser Update November 28th
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hi everyone,
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We landed in Germany a week ago today (28th Nov). On our way, just as we were about to board our 2nd flight, we listened to two amazing friends talk to our local Radio station to help raise awareness, and about the fantastic fundraising events being planned at home for November and December. Straight away we were both in tears, we could feel the love, support and kindness from everyone back home helping carry us on our way.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since arriving at the clinic it's been a lot to take in. Following pre check's, the doctors discovered an issue with Dee's heart which we hadn't known back home. That meant they needed to support Dee's heart before any new treatment could start. Thankfully Dee's heart condition has since improved, and Dee was able to have the first immunotherapy treatment last Thursday which we were so grateful for. The pre-treatment checks also showed Dee was highly positive for one of the therapeutic targets, which is really good news for the treatment.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since arriving the oncologists have now given us a better view of the treatment plan, and have explained that the treatment type Dee is receiving needs to be given on a three to four week cycle, over several months. That means more costs for travel &amp; treatment over the long term, and while we are working to see what potentially could be made available in Ireland, right now we can only get this type of Immunotherapy that Dee needs in Germany.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>So we move forward, one step and learning each day as we go.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We really miss our family and friends, but knowing there is so many behind us, makes every step that little bit easier.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All our Love,
</div>
<div>Dee &amp; Derek
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>UPDATE November 2023 from Dee and Derek:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We wanted to provide an update since we setup the fundraiser on where we are on this journey.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Firstly to say that we were lost for words with the phenomenal response from so many people, between family, friends, colleagues and our wider community. Dee was overwhelmed by the level of response and outpouring of support, it was even difficult for her to see the scale of so many acts of generosity and messages of love and kindness, we were quite simply blown away.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While we had hoped to travel to the US in September, Dee had been experiencing health issues which meant she was not strong enough to travel and unfortunately ended up in hospital for almost a month. They discovered Dee’s key blood markers were below normal levels which resulted in the admission to hospital.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>During her stay in hospital Dee had several blood tranfusions and radiotherapy. Her doctors have now started Dee on a new oral chemotherapy which, given the impact to her overall health, can only be taken for three months. Dee is also receiving regular blood transfusions once a week to keep her blood levels stable.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our focus continues to be exploring new advanced treatments as quickly as possible, and one that is as close to family and home as possible. We have found an advanced cancer clinic in Germany that offers specliaized patient targeted treatment for rare forms of cancer. After speaking with the clinic’s team, there are new forms of testing and treatment for which they believe Dee is suitable and would work alongside her current treatment.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately with so many leading and progressive types of cancer treatment, individual treatment programmes are very expensive and require staying in Germany for at least three weeks, as well as longer term return visits for ongoing monitoring and management.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our plan is to travel to Germany in the coming weeks to carry out individual testing for Dee’s type of cancer, and from that get started on a new treatment programme as quickly as possible.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We therefor are hoping to build on the amazing support we have been so grateful to recieve so far and for everyone’s generosity. We are aiming to fundraise a total amount of €125,000 to cover the treatment in Germany.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There will also be fundraising events held in the coming weeks.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you all so much again,
</div>
<div>Love Dee and Derek

<div>——————————————————August 2023
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In October of last year, our lives were turned upside down when we received some very difficult news. Dee (44) is a mother to our 4 beautiful boys - Isaac, Adam, Hugo and Josh. Dee is an acupuncturist and nurse and has touched the lives of so many people she has helped and is adored by everyone that knows her. She is the centre universe of our family and the most beautiful person I’ve ever known.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dee was diagnosed with a form of head and neck cancer in November last year, a type of cancer called Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. In our case, the cancer is of a rare gene mutation which affects roughly 4 in every 1 million people with this form of cancer.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Following lengthy scans and investigations to get a clear diagnosis, the doctors advised that Dee’s cancer had also spread to her bones.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dee started chemotherapy in January of this year. So far she has gone through six months of chemotherapy and on the advice of her medical team, now needs to take a break to give her body a chance to recover.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Throughout this last year and while on this journey, Dee’s strength of character, positivity and resilience has been nothing short of amazing. Every day she shines and inspires her family and friends to live life to the full, and even during her own challenging times has continued to help people around her.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As the next step in her treatment and recovery, Dee is hoping to travel to the US in three weeks time to have treatment that is not available in Ireland.
</div>
<div>Unfortunately that means very significant costs to travel, stay and have supportive treatment outside the country.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have set up this fundraiser reluctantly but with loving encouragement of family and friends who reminded us that Dee has helped so many people, and knowing people want to in turn help her in any way they can.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We as a family thank you for all the love and support we have had, and continue to have along this journey.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>edit for go fund me: Kate Fitzmaurice is a friend of Dee and Derek (the beneficiary) and all funds will be transferred directly to Derek.

<div>Alice Hayes is a local girl fighting neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that requires specialised treatment in Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital in the US. My Alice has been touched by her story and wishes to help in any way she can. She remembers the kindness everyone showed her when she was going through her own cancer treatment, and would like to help 9 year old Alice. She is organising a hair chop to benefit both The Rapunzel Foundation, which makes wigs for children suffering hair loss while going through cancer treatment and other illnesses, and any donations will go to the Help Alice Beat Cancer fund. Alice’s hair is her pride and joy but she is determined to help and raise as much as she can!

<div><strong>Gavin </strong>is a generous, kind, loyal, hardworking, and highly intelligent family man who thoroughly enjoyed being active, walking his dog and spending time with his wife, children, and friends. He is 48 years old with his life ahead of him; a wonderful father to his three young daughters and devoted to his wife.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In October 2021, Gavin suffered a major stroke following a severe case of Covid. Despite being double vaccinated with no underlying health problems and being so cautious throughout the pandemic, he has been ‘exceptionally unlucky’.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The stroke happened at home with his daughters and wife witnessing the horrifying event that turned their world upside down. The family immediately called the paramedics and Gavin was taken to hospital. It was discovered that he had suffered a major left-sided stroke which had significantly affected the language centre of his brain, rendering him unable to speak or understand. He also sustained right-sided paralysis.
</div>
<div>Unfortunately the thrombolysis (IV clot busting medication), although given within the four-hour window, made no difference to Gavin’s presentation. Due to an inability to swallow he was put on an NG feed and admitted to the acute stroke ward.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Through Gavin’s sheer determination, his situation has steadily improved. He is on a normal diet; he is saying more words and can walk with help from professionals.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Gavin is working so hard to recover his functioning, but his limited mobility and communication difficulties are exceedingly frustrating for him.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>As Gavin’s friends and family, we have set up this GoFundMe page in the hope of raising funds for Gavin to receive the essential rehabilitation and treatment he needs to regain his independence and facilitate his recovery to live as full a life as possible.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Your donations will go to funding access to intensive and specialised stroke rehabilitation, specifically:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<ul>
<li>Neurological physiotherapy by Bobath physiotherapists specialising in neurological rehabilitation
</li>
<li>Long term, intensive speech and language therapy.
</li>
<li>Long term neurofeedback; shown in research studies to have improved gait, brain activation, speech, balance and mobility of stroke survivors.
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Your support will be life-changing and greatly appreciated by Gavin, his family and all those who love him.</strong>
</div>
<div><strong>Thank you for any donation you can offer; it really does mean the world to us all.</strong>

Help Support Gavin's Recovery

Hi there, my name is Silvano, and I live in Ireland. I was diagnosed with cancer on February 2021, specifically a mucinous adenocarcinoma at stage IV. <br /><br />Just after being diagnosed, I started chemotherapy following the doctor’s recommendations. After six months of this treatment, the results are not as good as expected; the therapy is not shrinking the tumours. It’s only slowing down its growth. <br /><br />For this reason, the doctor planned a new approach from the results of an advanced test done to the biopsy, where two drugs were identified to save my life: Trametinib and Sotorasib. <br /><br />The first drug is available in Europe, and I have access to it. Still, the second one (Sotorasib) is a new drug not yet available in Europe. It was recently approved by the FDA in the US, the only place where it can be found at this moment, but its cost makes it impossible for me and my family to acquire it. <br /><br />That’s why now I am asking for your kind help so that any donation will be received with immense gratitude by my daughters, my wife and me. You will be forever in our prayers.<br /><br />If you cannot donate, don’t worry, you can help us by sharing this information with others and praying for my healing.<br /><br />Thanks a million for your precious help. Stay safe, and God bless you!<br />Silvano.<br /><br />-----------<br /><br />Hola, mi nombre es Silvano y vivo en Irlanda.
