<div>On June 23, 2026, 19-year-old Connor Navarro tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle home from training for an upcoming triathlon. A speeding driver ran a red light and struck Connor, taking his life in an instant.

<div>Connor had just celebrated his 19th birthday in May. He was brilliant, hardworking, kind, and deeply loved by everyone who knew him. As his class valedictorian, he had an incredibly bright future ahead of him. He had just begun a new externship the day before and was excited for everything that lay ahead. He loved running, playing board games, spending time with his girlfriend, and had a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel welcome.

<div>This unimaginable loss comes just 18 months after Connor’s father, Philip, died from brain cancer. While still grieving the loss of his dad, Connor quietly stepped into a role no teenager should ever have to fill. He became a source of strength for his family, helping care for his younger brothers and supporting his mom in countless ways. He simply loved his family and showed up for them every day.

<div>You may have seen in the news that The Croft School is facing an imminent closure due to the the financial mismanagement of its CEO. With less than a month left in the school year, we are now fighting to protect our community.

<div>Croft isn't just a school. It's the place where students feel seen. Where teachers know kids by name, by strength, by the particular way they light up. Where belonging isn't something they talk about. It's something they actually live. For our families, it has made all the difference.

<div>The kids and the staff here had nothing to do with the financial crisis that's threatening to close the school. And yet they are the ones who will be hurt the most if we don't act.

<div>On Tuesday, May 27th, our brother Teddy was admitted to the emergency room, feeling fatigued, pale, and unable to shake a recent cold. Just a few hours and a brief scan later, it was clear that he had numerous masses on his liver and abdomen, requiring further testing. In the next 48 hours, we learned that the masses on his liver and lung were metastatic cancer. 
</div>

</div>
<div>He immediately underwent surgery to place a port. In the meantime, Teddy has been managing pain, fatigue, and discomfort at Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Hospital in Brick, New Jersey. He's received multiple blood transfusions, supplemental oxygen, and has undergone a number of procedures, all with his parents at his side and visits from friends and family.
</div>

</div>
<div>On Tuesday, June 3, just a week after his initial diagnosis and while we were awaiting his pathology results, Teddy's condition took a turn for the worse. The masses on his liver began bleeding. He was intubated to give his body, and especially his lungs, a chance to recover while the doctors attempted to resolve a buildup of fluid around his lungs and resolve the bleeding in his liver.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>At the time of writing, Teddy is still intubated and is now also on dialysis. We are waiting and hoping to see if the surgical interventions to his liver were successful, but we still have a difficult road ahead of us. Teddy has been officially diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, and will be beginning an intensive regimen of chemotherapy immediately. We are hoping to transfer his care to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as soon as possible. Even with the difficulties of the past week, Teddy has been endlessly strong, and we have hope that he will continue to fight in the days ahead.

<div>Prior to his diagnosis, Teddy was a full-time cadet in the Ocean County Police Academy with the hopes of working for a local department. Teddy has been working tirelessly to better himself physically and intellectually to prepare for the responsibilities that come with working in law enforcement. Throughout his training, Teddy has been at the top of his class, and even ran a sub 6-minute mile just one week before his hospitalization. We are all devastated that his career and passion for this work will need to be put on hold and resumed when he is in better health.

<div>Anyone who knows Teddy knows not only how hard he works, but also how little he complains. He has spent countless years as a teammate, leader, brother, and friend to those around him with no hesitation to be there for those who need him. We also know that he is extremely selfless and reluctant to ask for help, even when he is struggling.

<div>We are setting up this page to help ease the stress associated with personal expenses and medical expenses during his treatment process. Because he is involved in such invasive treatment, Teddy will need to focus on rest and healing and will not be able to work at this time. <div><strong>We are incredibly excited to share that our 13-year-old son, Elliott Tanner, was accepted into the Physics Ph.D. program at the University of Minnesota! </strong>

<div>Elliott's goal is to become a High Energy Theoretical Physicist and ultimately a professor of physics to inspire others about the fundamental constituents of the universe! He started college at 9-years-old and graduated with his first degree, an Associate of Science in Mathematics, from Normandale Community College at 11 years old. On May 12, 2022, Elliott will graduate from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a Math minor at 13 years old. He will be one of the youngest Bachelor of Science holders ever globally!
</div>

<div><br />We can't stress enough that we are incredibly grateful to the University of Minnesota for accepting him into the program! We were shocked to discover the university did not extend a financial package to Elliott. Only 3% of incoming physics Ph.D. students in the U.S. do not receive a tuition waiver and/or financial package, so we never imagined that we would be scrambling to fund Elliott’s education at 13 years old. <br /><br />

<div>We have exhausted our resources advocating for Elliott in order to secure funding for his Ph.D. program. We have contacted the State of Minnesota, physics societies, corporations, The John Kent Cooke Foundation, The Davidson Institute, and many other avenues but have not been able to apply for/secure any funding. There may be options in the future for Elliott to obtain funding from external fellowships, research fellowships, and TA appointments. However, UMN cannot guarantee that this will happen. <br /><br />

<div>Tuition is roughly $20,000 per year and the average length of the theoretical physics program at the UMN is 5 years. Our immediate need is to cover the first year of his Ph.D. program. <div>Altadena has been our home for over five years. It is a special gem that is so connected with the natural world — unlike any other place we’ve lived in Los Angeles. We loved exploring the local hiking trails nestled in the mountains like Mallard canyon (where Dylan took Katelyn on one of their very first dates) and Altadena Crest Trail (which they hiked with the pups almost every week). Every street is filled with soaring old oaks and pines that shade homes during the hot summers and make you feel like you’re far from the hustle and bustle of LA. We loved coexisting with wild critters that frequently ventured down from the mountains — the coyotes that roamed our streets at dusk and dawn, the bobcat family that lived in our backyard for a time, the occasional bear that wandered in the neighborhoods. We loved visiting Farnsworth park and imagined bringing our future children there to play and make friends. We loved our local businesses like Cafe de Leche, Sidecca, Fair Oaks Burger and Pizza of Venice — many of which were lost to the fires. And we loved our Altadena home at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, and our sweet kind-hearted neighbors. We imagined raising a family in Altadena, our hearts break again and again knowing that future was ripped away from us.

<div>We are immensely grateful to have evacuated with the few valuables we could fit in our car. The most priceless being our fur babies, Wicket and Leia, who are safe and sound. Our hearts break yet again knowing that they’ll never frolic in our backyard or walk up the street to Farnsworth Park.

<div>It is hard to put into words the kind of sister and friend Lauren is. She is kind, smart, incredibly talented, creative, independent, and resilient. She is someone everyone gravitates to--from little kids to peers and beyond---because her energy is infectious. She is the kind of person that you find yourself reaching for when times are tough, because she is always willing to listen and offer whatever kind of support is needed, without hesitation. Now is the time for Lauren to feel the love and support surrounding her that she has always so generously given others.

<div>After the pandemic put a pause on Lauren's career working in the theater industry, she was thrilled to return to the stage in the fall of 2021. She was truly hitting a groove, with amazing back-to-back opportunities in the spotlight when her world abruptly came to a halt in February of 2023. No one is prepared to hear the words "you have cancer", and for that to be followed with "the type is a very aggressive form of breast cancer."

<div>Unfortunately, the stress Lauren faces and will continue to face doesn't end with a life-threatening illness. She will be unable to work for the foreseeable future as she starts intensive chemotherapy, followed by surgery, radiation, and perhaps additional chemotherapy. She has already endured the stress and significant expense of fertility preservation treatment (~ $8,500 out of pocket)- which was necessary given that her chemotherapy damages the reproductive system as it's attacking it's intended target- the cancer. As she continues on this journey, there will continue to be incredible financial costs associated with her life-saving treatment.

<div>It is a long road ahead, but if there is one thing we know about Lauren, it is that she is resilient and strong--and she has an incredible network of family, friends, and perhaps even strangers--who are here to lend a helping hand. That is where YOU come in!

He was thrown 40 feet, sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition at this time. He has a long recovery ahead, including additional surgeries and months of rehabilitation.

She has been placed on bed rest until she eventually does give birth. As most of you may know she is currently only 25 weeks pregnant. We are all hopeful that baby Beckett will not come for several more weeks. Mackenzie will be unable to work for some time now and she will be out of work much earlier than planned. She will kill me when she finds out that I'm doing this but she and her family are going to need our help. Please consider donating to my sister. This is Claire. On Saturday March 11th at 6:30 am Claire's parents, Sarah and Darrin, awoke to their 10 week old baby daughter having a seizure. In the week leading up to this event, Sarah and Darrin made two separate attempts to seek medical care for their baby. Both times, Claire was sent home with the diagnosis of "the common cold." It was only after her seizure and after Sarah and Darrin rushed Claire to the emergency room at Cayuga Medical Center that proper diagnostic measures were taken. After a lumbar puncture and spinal tap it was determined that Claire was both in septic shock and has bacterial meningitis. She was intubated and immediately transferred via ambulance to Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse.<br /><br />Claire is now in stable but critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit after several terrifying days. She received a blood transfusion, remains intubated on the ventilator, is having her status closely monitored and is receiving an MRI of her brain to help determine how the seizure and disease process may have affected her. <br /><br />Much remains to be known about Claire's prognosis, but little girl is strong and is fighting as hard as she can. Claire will be at the hospital for a minimum of 14 days to remain on long term IV antibiotics. Both of her parents are hard working and self employed and will be away from their jobs during this time which makes an already very stressful event even more precarious. Claire is the light of her parents' lives and they will do whatever they need to do to get her through this.<br /><br />Please consider helping to support Claire and her parents with medical and living expenses during this time. Melissa doesn't know i am creating this...well she does now... :)<br /><br />(written by mommy Melissa) <br /><br /><strong>My heart is left broken</strong>......<br />Yesterday I walked into a clinic room to discuss the few respectable images we were able to retrieve before abandoning Dorian's MRI of his right humerus and shoulder. The scan was getting lengthy and he was fidgety. It's alright, we'll just reschedule the scan and use sedation. I walk in the room and Dorian's oncologist follows.....then our social worker walks in after him. "Stephanie, what are you doing in here?!?! No no no!!! Get out!! WHAT ...THE .....?!?!?!" <br />There is only one reason for her to be there. Only one. One. One reason. No words are said. I put my head between my knees and try to catch my breath. Still no words are exchanged. None are needed. I catch myself before I crumble to the floor, and I cry until my eyes are swollen. <br />Today a CT scan confirmed my worst fear. A PET scan made it worse. Dorian's right humerus bone is grossly invaded by rhabdomyosarcoma. He has Rhabdo spots on a rib bone, both legs and a solid tumor under his right knee. My sweet child has relapsed again. This time while he was active on chemotherapy. My boy. My son. My world.<br /><br />Options are heartbreakingly limited. Together, Chris and I both decided that we are not willing to give up. We head back to Hasbro tomorrow and will begin mapping for radiation. D will have his 104th radiation session Monday morning and will continue daily treatments for 4-5 weeks. We will discuss chemo options for Dorian. At this point, chemo is merely a short term solution to slow progression of disease until we can research and decide on other therapy options.<br /><br />I can't describe how painful this is. My heart is crushed. My spirit shattered. My body physically hurts from the inside out. I am angry and scared. Dorian is angry and frustrated. But he is ready to fight. He is ready to kick ass again. He is ready to survive!!! Together, we stay D-STRONG!!!!!!<br /><br />-Melissa will be spending every moment she can with her child. Trying to cherish every moment! I believe this ride is going to be more difficult than ever and they need our help.
