So, my boy Bruce was playing one day with his siblings and somehow broke his back leg. It was a proximal tibia SALTER Harris 1 fracture on the growth plate. That alone cost $518 for the initial visit, and then $2500 for the treatment. I had to open a CareCredit account in order to cover it. I had pet insurance with Met Life, and submitted the claim, they initially accepted the claim, but once I provided them with the SOAP report they required (showing that he's been their patient since he was 7weeks old, and he got injured at 7 months old) they somehow decided that this incident was "preexisting" and retracted their initial decision and denied it. No matter what I said, or how I tried to explain it, they refused to approve the claim, even though it was not preexisting (how is a broken leg at 7 months old a preexisting condition from 7 weeks old???) Anyway, now I am on the hook completely for his care, and it has critically set me back. To make matters worse, I was taking him weekly to get his cast/splint changed and his injury checked, and everything was going well until the final splint change. A day and a half before his scheduled change, he was able to chew out of his Elizabethen collar and he proceeded to chew a very small hole at the toe of his splint, which apparently when he went potty, he got some urine on his foot at some point. When I took him for his change, the foot had a urine burn, and was severely infected. I was told that type of infection happens extremely rapidly, especially if it is wrapped like it was and there would have been no way for me to have known. At first they thought his whole leg would need to be amputated, but they were able to get the infection under control enough to save the leg, but unfortunately one of his digits fell off from the infection, and the other digit lost all of the flesh, leaving only the bone exposed, needing it to be amputated. That cost another $1635, which I had to open a Scratch Pay account to cover. His boarding is $40 a day. I am struggling to stay afloat right now. I work 3 jobs (well, I work my main job and then I Uber and Lyft after work during the weeks I don't have my daughter which is every other week). My main job keeps cutting my hours, and Uber/Lyft isn't always lucrative. I am the sole provider at my house, and I don't get government assistance or any outside help. Anything helps, and all funds will go to paying down my vet bills. I will provide updates to show that I am paying the bills down and as soon as they are manageable or paid off I will be sure to update on that.
