Hey! I’m Sarah, a 24yr old college art student and lifelong cat lover. I share my home with two tuxedo cats—the one I’m raising funds for is Sparta.
Sparta is 10 years old, born September 7th, 2015. I named him after "The Mean Kitty Song" by SMP Films (which he is not a mean kitty, he is the biggest playful loving cat ever). He is a very energetic kitty who loves to play and meet new people. He's so sweet and loving and always purrs when I pet him and talk to him. He's been there for me since the day I got him and I truly couldn't ask for a better cat. I love him with my whole heart as he has been, as some would call, an emotional support animal. I've hugged him while I cried and he would lick my cheeks of the tears. He would cuddle with me all day on my lowest days. He got me through some rough patches in my life. He's truly been the light of my life, been there with me through thick and thin.
❤️Today, I've created this GoFundMe so I can be there for him like he has for me. About a week ago, his right eye got swollen and pink and I thought it may have been pink eye. It has been a out a week and it appears like it got better as it no longer is swollen and only has some discharge. But other very concerning symptoms have come up and it makes me upset to see him in such discomfort. His appetite has gone down significantly and he doesn't want to get up for even water. When I touch his lower back/tail/hind legs, he cried in discomfort. I tried to encourage him to walk and he would growl in discomfort. He's been sleeping or a few days now. We called a vet for an estimate and given his symptoms, he suggested we bring him in right away.
I do not have the money for this bill on my own as I am a full time art college student with a part time job where most of my money goes into bills and education costs. The vet gave me a low end cost of $517 and a higher end cost of $954. I set the campaign goal at $1,000 to cover the full high‑end cost plus a small buffer for any unexpected fees.
Here is a breakdown of what this money is going towards:
-Office examination: $76
-OSHA compliance fee: $7
-SC Fluids <500cc: $55.50
-Heska CBC: $105.99
-Heska comprehensive (12chem): $164.49
-Heska electrolytes: $47.49
-MISC Medications: Ranges from $60-$130
If Needed(why the range in total cost):
-OSHA compliance fee, diagnostic imaging: $17
-Rad,1 case w/rad consult (1-2 wk): $356.99
This is what the assistant at the desk told us in the email that had the attached estimate:
"Here is a rough estimate for Sparta. The low end is no x-rays and the high end is with x-rays. I told your mom to apply for scratchpay to see if you guys can get approved for that, as Sparta should be seen as soon as possible. -Meagan Gasow Vet"
Please help me in getting my baby back to full health. I love him dearly and it hurts me to see him like this. Any donation, even if it's not a lot, is extremely appreciated and I'll be forever grateful.
How you can make a difference
Donate- even just $5 moves Sparta a step closer to seeing clearly and being at his full happy loving healthy self.
Share this page with friends, family, or anyone who loves cats. Even a share can spark a donation.
Follow the journey – I’ll post frequent updates, photos, and receipts so you can see exactly how your generosity is helping Sparta recover.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my Sparta. I appreciate you and am thankful.
♥️With Love,
Sarah B.
UPDATE 11/05:
We got Sparta into the vet today and it seems to the doctor that he had a really bad allergic reaction to something and his body is working on healing. We got some blood work done just in case to make sure he will be fine and we will get those results in 5-7 days.
To update the fundraiser, I'm lowering the cost to $355 as the total amount for the vet visit and blood work was just over $355. I will soon get a picture of the statement for the transaction and a picture of the bill.
UPDATE 11/17
Over these past days since my last update, we have been monitoring Sparta to make sure he is recovering and headed in the right direction. His blood work came back looking good, just reflecting the vet stress and the bad allergic reaction the doctor suspected. He is healthy aside from that allergic reaction he is recovering from!
Sparta has made slow but steady movements in the right direction towards full health again! He has started to build up his activity again, getting up to eat and drink regularly like normal! He also will let me pet his feet and tail without an immediate reaction and only protests if I do it too much.
I am confident Sparta won't need to see the vet again, but we are closely monitoring him to make sure he stays in the right direction.
Here are some pictures I have taken since my last update. My kitten, Moon, who I adopted back in August, absolutely loves Sparta and has been cuddling Sparta so much during his recovery.
