<div>On October 16, our sister, Barb Hagin, passed away less than eight weeks after her very sudden and courageous battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Barb was the epitome of light, love and laughter. Her warmth was felt for miles. From her home state of New Jersey to her time in San Francisco and the Silicon Valley, working alongside some of the biggest tech companies, she touched everyone she encountered and had an innate ability to connect people. Everyone who knew her has a special memory of Barb that will last a lifetime.

<div>Twenty-seven years ago, Barb married the love of her life - Marc Marcotte - on the beaches of St. John. She and Marc were proud puppy parents to their beloved Myles. This trio truly enjoyed life together through backpacking trips, camping adventures, jaunts to wine country, brunches in San Francisco and more. To say Barb’s passing leaves a huge hole in Marc and Myles’ lives is a profound understatement.

<div>Barb was cremated and celebrations of life (on both the East and West Coasts) will be planned for October 2026. Ahead of that Marc – and Myles where possible – will bring Barb back to all of her favorite places including St. John, the California back country, Sonoma/Napa and of course New Jersey. Many of you have asked how you can help – we are setting up this GoFundMe for Marc to not only celebrate Barb’s life but also help ease the unforeseen challenges that come in the wake of such a profound loss, and to ensure he is supported for whatever he needs during this dark and difficult time. Funds will be used directly to support memorial plans while helping Marc stabilize and rebuild his life in this new and tender chapter.

<div>People ask us all the time, “How’s business?” One answer is, “Business is great.” We have quadrupled our revenue since we bought the store. Our customer loyalty and engagement are as good as we could want.

<div>But we operate out of a nearly 100-year-old building. A lot of expensive-to-fix things broke this year. Worker’s comp and liability insurance have gone up dramatically. The extreme volatility in food prices has made it difficult to maintain our margins. In short, it’s been a challenge.

<div>You may have noticed persistent traffic disruptions on the bridge that so many of our customers use every day. We estimate that we lose up to $1,000 in sales for every day the bridge is blocked.

<div>During the current phase of the project, we expect daily traffic control and, on some days, complete bridge closure. In a business with margins as low as ours, these seemingly minor annoyances are slowly but surely draining our resources.

<div>Neighbors and customers tell us how much <strong>Rocky’s</strong> means to the community, and we have always loved the opportunity to contribute to the lives of everybody who walks through that door. We would dearly love to be able to continue to do it for another 9 years and beyond.

<div>In 1995, Lamar Johnson was wrongfully convicted of murder in St. Louis, Missouri. He has been fighting for his freedom for more than 28 years. That fight ended on February 14, 2023 when Judge David Mason vacated Lamar's conviction and ordered his immediate release.

<div>Your support will help Lamar re-enter society with some financial resources. While he worked inside prison for more than two decades, he was paid only cents per hour. He has no savings and will not receive compensation from the State for his years of wrongful imprisonment. <div>I’d like to start by sharing that he was so kind and had a huge HUGE heart. He was a humble and very hardworking man Monday through Friday 9-5’er. Loved to come home drink some cold beers  and watch soap operas (NOVELAS!) he was awesome like that a good honest family man. Growing up he’d take me to job sites and teach me about construction work, hard work ethics and professionalism. Afterwards He’d take me to the alameda beach get me an ice cream from Mac Donald’s help me collect sea shells and throw me in the ocean EVERYTIME! He was the kind of dad that let me keep the stray animals (cats, dogs, birds OH! rabbits too!!!) help me nurture them and sometimes hide them from mom . As I grew up and began living my own independent life as an adult he never stopped being there for me he’d visit frequently and always bring me nicknacks that he had me in mind when he’d seen them we’d go out to lunches and support local restaurants and small businesses as he understood how important it is to support our community. I know this year was especially hard for him after my mom passed and in that I find some comfort that they’re together again.

It has been 15 years or so but the memories, friendships lasts longer then that.  <br />Chris married to Ilana in 2008 and welcomed his son Ryden who is now 3 years old. when Ryden was 1 year oldChris was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer. Since then he has gone through multiple surgeries, radiation,  chemotherapy and immunotherapy to try to keep the badly behaving cells in his body in check.<br />The medical team hoped that Chris would be cured but in 2019 Chris and his family received the news that the cancer has spread to his lungs and is no longer curable. <br />He responded well to the latest treatments and the last medical test showed that the tumors in his lungs has shrunk. Our prayers have been answered: <strong>Travis has found a living donor and a kidney transplant has been scheduled for November 7. <strong>Bringing Community Resiliency</strong><br /><br />Dear Friends and Family,  Writing from the woods outside Ukiah, the first shooting stars and buttercups brightening my day.  I'm off again on a dream, maybe it is my legacy work.  Would you help me bring hope and healing to trauma survivors?  I have spent the last two years collaborating to bringing the Community Resilience Model (CRM) to my home in Ukiah, California and now I want to find out if it can help bring healing to the Middle East. <br /><br /> I will be spending this spring in the Holy Land making contacts and partnering with non-profits and peace promoting organizations, giving presentations and trainings. I am doing this on my own. It is a leap of faith that others will want to help make it happen. <br /><br />Funds will help pay for my travel, learning materials for the trainings and workbooks to continue the work, interpreters when presenting to Arabic speakers, telephone, local transportation and small             stipends for one or two assistant-trainees.<br /><br />I expect this to be a two way exchange. The number of groups who have been working relentlessly in the face of huge challenge for peace and social equity is amazing. We here in the US have a lot to learn from them as well. So in addition to offering what I can, I hope to bring back some inspiration for us all, and use the resiliency tools we are developing for ourselves to do the hard work right here.<br /><br />CRM teaches people to understand how trauma affects their nervous systems and trains them to use simple body based tools to recover and support their resilience.  Resilient people can self-regulate so make good decisions, are creative problem solvers, and can be models for others in their community. Anyone can learn these tools, no professionals needed, and the method is adaptable to all ages, religions and cultures. Community Resilience means well being accessible on a community wide scale. CRM trainings have been used in trauma hot spots where war, social upheaval and natural disasters have struck: Haiti, Nepal, South Africa, Kenya, the Philippines, Guatemala, Rwanda, Turkey and France with Syrian refugees, etc. Those who learn the skills are then taught how to teach others in their communities, so the base of resiliency broadens.<br /><br />I'm happy for you to email or call me if you've got more questions, advice or even little gifts you'd like to send along.

Cross pollination for Resiliency 

Dyllan Kianna Wicks' <strong>heartfelt</strong> story began soon after she was born February 21, 2010.   The past five years have been filled with an abundance of love, joy, amazing courage and so many lessons about how fragile and precious life is.  Dyllan was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and after many procedures/surgeries, received a heart transplant after a very challenging first year of life.  She endured countless medical tests, hospitalizations and medical care throughout her young age.  Just recently she began having issues with her heart again.   After yet another hospitalization, the family just learned that our dear Dyllan is not a candidate for another heart transplant.  It has been a challenging fight for her life and this sweet angel has had amazing care and has touched so many lives! She is now home in the loving care of her family with hospice.<br />The timing is uncertain, as is life.   <br />Dayna, Scott and their 8 year old daughter Aliya and family are surrounding Dyllan with much love and care at this tender time.  <br /><br />Between medical and other expenses, the family could very much use financial assistance during these trying times.    We gratefully and humbly ask for your financial assistance as the family walks this path with their sweet angel.    Your prayers and enduring faith have lifted the Wicks family, so please keep them coming.  <br /><br />We'd appreciate you sharing Dyllan's story and spread the word of this Go Fund Me account for the Wicks family.  With deep love in our hearts to each of you...
