Recharge Africa — Liverpool to Lilongwe to Lusaka An electric overland crossing to raise awareness about sustainability and renewable technologies, equipping two projects, FOMO in Malawi and Tikondane in Zambia with solar power along with training among the local communities on solar and wind power In 2018, Peter Channon drove coast to coast across Africa with Goster Chibade and Manuel Magombo — both raised through FOMO (Friends of Mulanje Orphans) in Malawi — supporting Brendan Rendall’s daily marathon across the continent to raise funds for FOMO’s secondary school.  Along the way we visited Tikondane, a project in Katete, Zambia helping twenty-two communities build sustainable livelihoods.  The three of us went back as volunteers in 2023.  In October 2027, Peter, Manuel and Goster are doing it again — this time driving an electric vehicle the length of the continent, from Liverpool to Lilongwe to Lusaka, and this time bringing solar panels that stay behind permanently, along with the training to keep them running.  The plan is simple: fund solar power for both FOMO and Tikondane, teach solar and wind power skills to young people in Malawi and Zambia so they can build their own livelihoods from it, and prove that an EV can make this crossing at all — including through some of the least charging-friendly terrain on the continent.  This fundraiser covers the trip itself: ferry crossings, travel, bringing Goster and Manuel over from Malawi to the UK to prepare, supporting their families while we’re away, and the solar equipment and installation for both projects.  We’re separately seeking a vehicle sponsor along with general sponsorship so ideally none of this fund needs to go toward the car itself Follow along on www.recharge-africa.org Or on Facebook: Recharge Africa
