Thomas Burns

My name is Thomas Burns. For most of my life, my purpose was simple: serve others. As a Vietnam-era veteran, I answered my country's call. Later, I dedicated my career to serving my community as a police officer. I never expected recognition or reward. Like so many who choose a life of service, I simply believed it was the right thing to do. Everything changed during an on-duty fight that left me seriously injured. Those injuries ultimately forced me into disability retirement, ending the career that had become such a large part of my identity. Losing the job I loved was one of the hardest moments of my life. For a long time, I convinced myself I would find another way. But sometimes strength isn't about carrying every burden alone. Sometimes it means accepting the kindness of others when you truly need it. The funds from this GoFundMe will help with medical expenses, everyday living costs, home maintenance, an unexpected legal expense, and other necessities that have become increasingly difficult to manage on a disability retirement income. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will help relieve some of the financial pressure and allow me to focus on my health and maintaining my independence.
