<div>Hi all, my name is Marissa Owen and I have worked for Hawaiian Airlines for 10 years. My dear friends, Sarah Cain and Casey Robinson, lost their Lahaina home during the recent wildfires on Maui. Although lucky to have been on the mainland visiting family and out of harm’s way, this also means they missed any opportunity to grab even their most cherished items. We met during our initial training and lived together during our first year. <div>April 15, 2023 will forever be the most tragic day of our lives. My husband, my children’s father, our family’s protector, was taken from us, as a victim of gun violence.

<div>I met Gary as a teenager, we spent 16 incredible years together, and from those years, had 6 children, including a hanai son, who loved, admired, and aspired to be just like him.
</div>

<div>Gary was a family man, when he wasn’t working his 9-5 as a sheet metal fabricator, he spent his weekends gladly spending his time with his kids, whether it’d be taking them shopping, hiking in the mountains,fishing in the ocean, or simply taking a drive around the island to enjoy our beautiful lives.
</div>

<div>Gary loved being a dad. He loved creating memories with them, he loved being their confidant, their provider, their voice of reason, but ultimately, he loved having so many reasons to be alive.
</div>

<div>In the early hours of April 15, my husband was a victim of “wrong place, wrong time”, when he bravely inserted himself between two groups of men who had started an altercation amongst themselves. As a result of trying to keep the peace, my husband was fatally shot multiple times.
</div>

<div>Gary meant the world to our family. He was respectful, kind hearted, loyal, &amp; generous where he could afford to be. He was the kind of person, who could light up one room with his smile, and who’s laughter could be heard from the other. He was hardworking, and never asked anyone for anything, he enjoyed earning his keep, because he wanted to raise his boys to be strong , self sufficient men.

<div>My heart is broken, knowing that my girls will be growing up in this cruel world without their protector, that my boys will have to pull guidance from others because they no longer have their dad to guide them through their teenage years and teach them how to be men. It pains me, when our toddlers are crying out for the man who they used to wake up &amp; fall asleep with, knowing that, they’ll never make any new memories with him.

<div>Gary was never someone who wanted to make any type of spectacle over himself, I’d always want to do things to celebrate him for his birthday, or Father’s Day, etc. but he’d never let me. He was incredibly humble and grateful for all the blessings he received throughout his life. Which is why, I’d like to give him a service, worthy of someone who gave everything, and asked for nothing in return.

<div>Gary was the sole provider for our family, and as our family goes through this hard time, we can’t help but worry about the costs of holding his services. <div>On Monday, April 11, 2022, Jaysden was in school when his teacher noticed that something wasn’t normal with him. Jaysden kept falling whenever he tried to walk and couldn’t bring himself to stand up. His teacher took him to the health room, where they immediately contacted his mother, Xena Kaeo, to inform her about their concerns. Jaysden’s family picked him up from school and took him to his regular Primary Physician at Waiola Specialty Clinic. Shortly after, Jaysden's family was told that he needed to be sent to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, where he was admitted. Doctors did an MRI to check on any findings. After the MRI, they found a mass on Jaysden's lower back part of his brain.

<div>So on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, doctors performed a procedure and inserted a tube to help drain the liquid in Jaysden’s brain. Then, after a day's rest, he underwent a long 11.5-hour surgery on Thursday, April 14, 2022. In this operation, doctors cut an incision from the middle of his head to the back of his neck to access the tumor.

<div>After his initial surgery, two days went by, and Jaysden's doctors ordered another MRI and tested the tumor. After his doctors tested the mass itself, they diagnosed Jaysden with Medulloblastoma, the most common type of cancerous brain tumor in children. Unfortunately, they found that there was a tiny remaining piece of the mass still in his brain. On Sunday, April 17, 2022, while he was recovering, doctors informed both parents to prepare themselves as Jaysden will have a long road for treatment and recovery.

<div>On Monday, May 2, 2022, cancer specialists notified Jaysden's mom about having his treatment in Seattle, Washington, at SCCA Proton Therapy Center. The temporary move is because Honolulu doesn't have Proton therapy, a type of radiation treatment that uses protons rather than x-rays to treat cancer. Doctors say the therapy in Seattle will be for 6-8 weeks, and it starts in less than two weeks. However, before Jaysden starts treatment in Washington, he must undergo another procedure to insert a port into his chest to make his treatment easier.

<div>On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, Jaysden was moved out of the ICU and to the pediatrics floor to start his recovery journey. (Thank you, Jesus!) Finally, on Thursday, May 5, 2022, Jaysden was able to see his Ohana, and it picked up his little 6-year-old spirit. Jaysden pushes himself to do more every day so he can go home. But, baby Jaysden needs YOUR help!

<div>It’s always difficult when someone is dealing with health complications, but it is especially difficult during the holidays.

<div>On November 15, Chaz was admitted to the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Cedars Sinai after a CT scan revealed a mass in his brain.
</div>

<div> 
</div>

<div>Doctors in the Neuro ICU did additional scans that determined that the mass's specific location was blocking the natural flow and drainage of the cerebral spinal fluid in Chaz’s brain. This blockage and build-up of fluid were applying dangerous pressure levels on his brain, which resulted in immense amounts of pain, nausea, disorientation, and cognitive impairment. It was clear that this dangerous build-up could cause irreversible damage and even be life-threatening if doctors did nothing to relieve the pressure. Therefore, it was decided he would undergo emergency surgery to drain the fluid build-up externally from his head.<br /><br />Chaz’s condition began to stabilize once doctors had drained enough excess fluid. A biopsy of the mass in his brain determined a bacterial infection collected and formed an abscess. Chaz immediately began aggressive antibiotic treatment. Two additional surgeries were done to successfully internally divert cerebral spinal fluid flow around the abscess blockage in the brain. Released from the ICU to the general Neurology floor, Chaz continues the antibiotic treatment and will soon be transferred to an intensive rehabilitation facility once doctors have cleared him as medically stable. He will begin physical, occupational, and speech rehabilitation therapy to strengthen the cognitive and physical abilities affected by this infection.
</div>

<p>Aloha my name is Parrish Cummings. I have created this go fund account to help with expenses for my beautiful niece McKenna Naheana Vierra and her ohana. McKenna was born December 17, 1993 to Brian and Liane Vierra and went home to our Loving Father July 26, 2021 from an airplane accident in Alaska. McKenna was a beautiful person inside and out. She started working at Hawaiian airlines as a flight attendant. While working for Hawaiian airlines she started to pursue her career by working towards getting her Helicopter and plane license to become a pilot. McKenna recently got diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer. She succeeded in her chemotherapy, finally to being cancer free. Her hard work and strength were heavily influenced by her relationship with God. My niece genuinely devoted her life to our father and lived by grace till she went home. McKenna was a free spirit and sweet soul. She lived her life to the fullest and didn’t let anything stop her from achieving what God had destined for her journey through her life. This was a tragic moment for everyone. We need your help in bringing McKenna home so we can have her services to put her to rest. Lefu'a Vito Ohana House Fire Loss and Repair

Beautiful. Independent. Loving. Compassionate and Caring. Honest. Fierce. These were among the many characteristics of my beloved sister, April Oi Ling Lum.
 
As a single mother blessed with two daughters, Taylor and Asia, April made many sacrifices along the way to ensure that she provided comfortably for her girls. She was meticulous about their education and believed that providing them a quality education would set them on the path for success.  My sister was right – both of her daughters are now college graduates with flourishing careers who credit their Mom for giving them a solid foundation. She recently expanded her family and became a grandmother with the birth of Jacob, Taylor’s son who just turned a year old. 
 
April landed her dream job as a Flight Attendant with Hawaiian Airlines. She absolutely loved her job and the perks of traveling to different destinations. Throughout her prestigious 34-year career, she built strong, lifelong friendships and considered many of her friends an extension of her family.  She worked hard and often picked up additional flights so she would have the financial resources needed for her daughters.
 
A few years ago, April suffered a debilitating injury at work and endured multiple surgeries and frequent therapy visits. She had been making strides towards her recovery, which was slow and steady. 
 
We unexpectedly and tragically lost April on October 27, 2020 at the age of 54. Our family is devastated by her sudden passing. There are no words which could explain the enormity of our loss. April was full of life and now she is gone, leaving us all too soon. Although words of comfort may aid her family during this time, what would be most helpful is your generosity. We humbly ask for your donations to alleviate costs incurred by her family for medical and funeral expenses. Any amount would be appreciated so that we may honor April and alleviate the financial impacts of her untimely passing. In Loving Memory of April Oi Ling Lum

Tuesday morning she started to act really sick and stopped eating. I took her to the vet only to get heartbreaking news thatshe had pancreatitis. They started treating her at the hospital and I went on with my day. A week later after she still wasn'tgetting any better they sent her to a new hospital where they re-diagnosed her with gall bladder and intestinal disease. The past week alone has cost almost five thousand dollars and her new prognosis is treatable but unfortunately not on my college student budget. 
</p>

<p>she is my absolute best friend and I now have to decide if I cut her life 10 years short all because I can't afford it. 
</p>

We wanted to take the opportunity to tell a short story about a beautiful and giving couple that has never lost their positive spirit despite Ayako being diagnosed with cancer.<br /><br />I met Ayako and Eric during a baby shower shortly after my arrival in Hawaii. The two welcomed me with a big smile and an open heart despite me being the new guy. I left that day with an invite to play basketball and an admiration for a very nice couple.<br /><br />Shortly thereafter I learned that Ayako has been hit with a serious illness in her family and she is spending most of her free time caring for those affected. Not only did she put others over herself she did this while facing a serious medical condition of her own - Ayako was diagnosed with cancer. <br /><br />Most people would not be able to push forward with either of these diagnoses but not Ayako and Eric. When I met them the next time they again had a large smile on their face and did not forget about the basketball invite. <br /><br />Time passed and Ayako had to go through medical treatments and when my wife and I invited the two for our wedding we had no expectation of the them joining. But here they were, beautiful and shining. Not only did the two attend the wedding but they also gave us a very gracious gift. <br /><br />In that moment my wife and I said this is enough, this is not fair, those two have every right to focus their time and resources on themselves but here they are supporting our future.
