Tijuana Caravan

Donación protegida
In mid March, I will be returning to Tijuana, Mexico to once again witness and photograph the ongoing humanitarian crisis that the Migrant Caravan has become.

On my last trip to the Mexican side of the border, I learned much of what the many men, women and children are dealing with in their constant, persistent struggle to enter the United States in a law abiding manner for only the fair chance of their claim for asylum to be heard and considered.

Daily, frustrating, early morning journeys to the port of entry with all of their meager possessions to determine if there would be a possibility of their number being called for an asylum interview.

Hundreds of families surviving in tent city conditions on the streets or even abandoned warehouses of Tijuana. No water, no sewage, no food, and a determined yet dwindling hope.

Most striking to me has been the countless children I’ve seen and their ability to just be kids. No doubt that this time in their lives will have a profound effect, regardless of the outcome, yet they continue to find ways to have fun. To play. Their parents encouraging this while masking the fear in their eyes the best that they can. A fear that any parent can instantly understand upon observing and then reflecting upon it.

I’ve even had the wonderful opportunity to shoot a few weddings for migrant families that were held in the midst of chaos that their everyday lives have become. A temporary joyful breather.

My aim is to continue to make images that can shed a light on what is happening and to put a human face on the very real human issue that is happening on our watch.

I will continue to post these images and attempt to expose them to as many eyes as possible. The images, so far, have made impacts through social media, news outlets, and other channels. They have even been featured on WBUR’s Cognoscenti.

This return visit with a fresh familiarity will allow me to produce more images to expose to as many eyes as possible. Please take part in this and help me help these families the best way that I can.

Thank you very much.

For any donations of $100 or more, I will send you a set of 10 high quality 5”x7” prints.
