The Campaign Against Agricultural Drainage

Donation protected
Illegal uncontrolled agricultural drainage has been a problem on the Canadian prairies for many years.  The reason for draining wetlands is many faceted but almost exclusively for the economic benefit of the individual landowner. This comes with direct impacts on downstream neighbors involving flooding, erosion and / or water quality and the loss of the public benefits provided by the environment.

Responsible drainage includes consideration for the impacts to other people and our environment.  Presently there is no requirement for assessing or mitigating the impacts.   This is a campaign to change that.

These donated funds will be used for action orientated work done by Jeff Olson for the not-for-profit Citizens Environmental Alliance.  This includes administration such as postage and photocopying, preparing media releases and communications, liaison with other environmental organizations and all levels of governments to make them aware of this critical issue and initiate a call for action.

Without this support this issue will remain hidden where the drainage proponents, want it with the cost born to future generations.

Jeff is a retired public servant of 36 years in the environmental field.  He has extensive knowledge surrounding farmland drainage and wetland loss as a Conservation Officer stationed throughout Saskatchewan, as a Wetlands Specialist in the Parkland Eco-region and, in the last fourteen years of his career as a Watershed Planner with the Water Security Agency.

Jeff is the founder of the Saskatchewan Environmental Alliance; a group of concerned forward thinking citizens working on innovative solutions to contemporary environmental problems.  He holds a recognized Environmental Professional (EP) designation in Natural Resource Management and is principal in Mind's Eye Consulting (Saskatchewan) which is involved in watershed management, environmental law enforcement, and present environmental water issues in Saskatchewan.

Jeff ranches in the Beaver Hills area of west central Saskatchewan.
