Team GDFR Is BACK
It's once again time for GDFR to start some serious training on the river for the 2019 Texas Water Safari!
We had a blast three years in a row and are looking forward to getting back on the river after a year off. We are coming back strong and pushing for a new improved time and placement. To do this we are using a different boat that is made to cut the water like a warm knife through butter. Best of all we will be working with a rudder to steer which makes it easier on us to keep up speed and save energy along the way. We really appreciated all the support from our family, friends and sponsors in the past. That also includes everyone that came out to watch some of the race and even follow us online!
In case you haven’t heard about us, let us catch you up on how our race record has been…
2015: Mixed Tandem Unlimited: Our first finish in 74 hours and 45 minutes placing over 49th out of 81 boats.
2016: Mixed Tandem Unlimited: The story that is now a part of Safari-lore… we started the race an hour late because we forgot our paddles in Austin! We finished 57 hours and 6 minutes placing 39th out of 101 boats. Best of all we took SECOND Place in our Class!!
2017: Unlimited as a three person team. We ran into some issues along the way but persevered and finished in 60 hours and 20 minutes placing 47th out of 141 boats.
We honestly could not have done it without the support from family, friends and some amazing Sponsors! With their help we were able to raise near our $3000 goal which helped us with:
1. Entry fees
2. Boat supplies
3. Gas for travel each weekend and for our captains to travel during the race
4. Money for our team captains to buy ice and snacks along the way
5. Groceries for food to fuel us during the race
6. Team shirts
7. Snacks such as organic peanut butter packets during the race
8. Meals for the team captains
9. Toll fees
10. Boat rental
11. Boat repairs
and more!
We have some big goals coming back to the race this year. This includes moving up in the overall finishers with a much faster time. Water levels are high right now and so are our hopes of a solid finish!
