Take Em Down Nola
We have made tremendous progress in our struggle to force the City of New Orleans to live up to its December 2015 commitment to remove four confederate monuments. Only 1 of these hated statues has come down. Take Em Down NOLA is committed to getting the others down quickly and rid our city of all symbols and glorification of white supremacy. Whether they are statues, street or school names or parks.
The forces of white supremacy have descended upon our city openly brandishing weapons. Our city leaders had failed to enforce local ordinances against carrying weapons within 1000 feet of schools, churches or demonstrations or when intoxicated. Our organizing forced them to banish weapons last Sunday at our historic second line celebration.
Our work is far from over. We need your financial support. We produce educational materials and presentations in communities and schools, have an office, and organize public demonstrations. Our struggle is receiving notice from all around our city, the country and the world. We have begun planning a major national conference on struggles to remove white supremacist symbols in 2018.
To us these racist symbols are about more than the past. We also address the poverty, mass incarceration, gentrification and unemployment of the present. As one Black worker expressed it, “as long as these monuments are up its says it’s okay for Blacks to be at the bottom and whites at the top.”
Please help us – give generously – make history with us.
Rev. Avery Alexander, gone but never forgotten! This is for you.
Is it better to tear down monuments or to build new ones ? Build new ones to y'alls heroes. The tear it all done move is just anarchy gone totalitarian. Take the high road, is a concept other folks are familiar with . That is where you 'go fund' a movement to erect new monuments without tearing down someone else's.
Y'all are being used as pawns people! They are using the politics of division and stirring up racial tensions for a purpose! The people behind these puppets you are following have the real money.... and they want to subjugate you using government law and policy. Giving money to these people is the same thing as funding a totalitarian revolution....
New Orleans never was much of a racist city.We all live together. These people are not from New Orleans I know .Go to face book look at their page then look where they are from. Some of them own AIRBNBs and that is what has put all the minorities out of their homes and apartments where they they have lived for decades.Money was set aside to help re build the homes. It was spent on code enforcement which levies fines of 500 dollars a day for each offence. They did nothing to help the minorities .Nothing.The statue attack is a smokescreen.Race baiters have descended on our city ,Now they want money to spread hate.We had black protestors that were against taking down the statues.they were attacked.raise money to help a black family fix their home so they wont have to sell it.
There is a movement to remove all MLK statues, I will give to that.
