Take Back The Ring Record
$201,740 of $259,000 goal
In September, 2011, the Viper ACR became the Nurburg "Ring King" when Dominik Farnbacher set the production car record at 7:12:13. Years later, the Porsche 918 took the title (with battery power assistance). Let's make our final statement and take Back The Ring.
You can help!
Update... There's a lot going on for Viper lovers. Below, you'll find how we are rocking the automotive world with international stories about our mission and how we're going about accomplishing it.
Next, look for the in-car video to be up on-line shortly. Watch how fast Dominik Farnbacher responds. That's what makes him so good. Finally, after much head scratching and discussion, we feel that there is 5 seconds more in the car. That would bring us down to a 6:58. Will it beat the Porsche 918 time? We will have to return NEXT MONTH to find out. We were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time and got 3.5 hours in August. The only thing I'm waiting for prior to booking it, is a couple of single end-of-the-day runs, in case it rains for the entire 3.5 hours that we book. The 3.5 hours will cost approximately $45,000. That does not include the cost of traveling, hotels, etc. for the crew. So, it looks like we're crowdfunding again.

I want to point out that the cost of all of the damage now falls on Bernie and Ben at Viper Exchange, who own the car. This is why I found it odd that some folks were saying that Viper Exchange would profit on selling these cars when we were done with the record runs. Any possible profits will be used to repair the car that contacted the armco. The gofundme donations will pay 1) the track for repair to the rail and 2) the owner of the track-day because we took up 1.5 of his hours instead of 1 and he asked that we compensate him, which is fair.
So, there you have it. Our big adventure to the Nurburgring comes to an end. We have not had a driver who feels that the car is not a mid 6:50's car. I think that we asked a bit much of the tires on this particular track. There's a reason it’s called "The Green Hell." Viper Nation, we did the best we could with what we had to work with. It's hard not being supported by the factory in any way. We did it with YOUR gofundme contributions, tires and funds by Kumho, spare engines by Prefix (fortunately we didn't need them), 2 complete and free cars from Viper Exchange and BJ Motors, and other generous donations by members of the Viper community. So many donations, that the only way to list those who gave more than $250 is on the poster, which we will start working on. I will try to write a post-script from the plane, on the way back to the states.
We will post the video and data shortly. Our data guy is on vacation and we have to figure out how to get it off the drive. As soon as we do, we'll post it.
Again, thank you all and please know that the only thing that kept us apart from a 6:5x was time and money. Here's the 7:01.3 lap that all of this was for.
If you'd like to help us pay our final bills after the incident, the gofundme page is still live.
I hope you're reading out (close to) daily updates on the Ring King FB page. You probably know that we are still in Germany and have purchased more solo time this week at The Ring. Please help us cover the costs. We're so close to success. And thank you for everything you've done to this point to get us here.
Hello everyone, want to do a new record set at the Nurburgring with the all new ACR Extreme. Well, easy, I have one at my place, I live in a Belgium. We will just need the same driver or someone else to drive my car. I will personally let the driver set the record with my Viper. I will help to spent less money to all of you.
For each and every person that has contributed already, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Can you please post it on your Viper friends facebook pages so that we can get this thing going virally. Please help get the word out. I'm at Sebring with some other Viper racers this weekend (1/19/17). If you're here, come over and say hi. Let's get this thing done. Everybody is going to flip out when they hear who the drivers are. Thank you Ben Keating and Viper Exchange for helping make this happen.
Sulaiman, thank you so much for your offer. Obviously, the car(s) will be set up and tuned by the best ACR engineers. We will be doing that and outfitting the car(s) with racing seats and harnesses for safety, before they leave Viper Exchange. The best way you can help our effort is to contribute to the fund. Hope to see your contribution on the board!!! Thanks again.
Bob Panoff, HUH? Tuning means tuning the suspension by setting the adjustable shocks, ride height, front splitter, setting toe-in, etc. The cars are stock and right off the showroom floor which is one of the reasons we are taking cars out of a dealer's stock. We can't use a customer's car for a number of reasons, ranging from not knowing what he has done to it in the past to liability. Because he is in a foreign country, we'd need a law firm and a change in legal venue to create an indemnity. There would be no way of knowing what Sulaiman's car has gone through. WHY MAKE THIS MORE COMPLICATED THAT IT NEEDS TO BE? We need two cars in case one has an issue and we can't get the parts in time. Bob, I appreciate your critical thinking but we need financial contributions more than anything else. How about helping?
Hi Russ. I hope all is well. Won't the cars have to be completely stock to break the record? What effect will putting non stock seats and a non stock harnesses have on that? And by "tuning" are you referring to suspension tuning or redoing the controller calibration? Suspension tuning would be permissible but I do not think that changing the controller calibration would be considered stock. Lastly, wouldn't it make sense to only take one car and let the engineers who I assume will be on site any way set up Sulaiman's car and use it as one of the two cars as long as he is willing to sign a document assuming the risk of any damage to the car during the test? Best, Bob
Please support my gofundme. I don't have many friends but I am in a time of need. Anything helps even if it's just a share or a retweet. You can search: help save Suzanne's home. Thanks and have a blessed day.
Hi Russ - I was wondering when we are going to get our helmets? Multiple time contributor - I hope to do more- congrats on the record!
I wish you all the best !! You can make it !!! Go on for a "Ring record" !!
Taking the viper under 7:00 is a massive achievement. No all wheel drive, manual, not even paddles. Not to mention rear wheel drive. The extreme Aero package will be used more and at the right times. As for beating the record, That's tough remember million dollar cars have tried hard, factory backing. Porsche is the only one I would consider production.
10 more seconds to go to beat the Huracan, but the 720S might be even quicker, go Viper!
This car has GOT to break the record!!! Go VIPER!
How confident are you folks with a record run against the time the Huracan laid down? I'm all in favor of the final-gen Viper taking it's bows at the Ring, don't get wrong, and would love to see it go out on top.
Way to go Doug!!
Thank you for the feedback Russ. Contribution made. Sempre SRT
Thanks for the feedback Russ. Contribution made.
Thank you for the answer Russ. How about the other question regarding the seat and harness change out. Will that affect the car being considered stock for the record? Please answer this question then I will decide whether to make a contribution. Money comes after the completion of due diligence not before my friend. You know that.
