We are the Syrian Family Sponsorship Initiative Hamilton (SFSIH) and we need your help!
We are a group of dedicated, compassionate, proud Hamiltonians with a desire to come together to make a positive impact in our community and the world.
We are raising funds to support and sponsor a young family of 3 who have recently fled their home country of Syria and are currently living as refugees in Turkey. They will be privately sponsored with the funds raised by our campaign efforts and re-settled in Hamilton, Ontario. We are excited to welcome them to our city and support them to make this life-changing transition, but we need help from the community to raise enough funds to provide them with all the necessities they will require as they start the next chapter of their lives here. In addition to fundraising and sponsoring this family, our group will dedicate countless hours to help them adjust to life in Canada!
The family consists of a young couple in their 20's and a baby girl, only a few months old. They are struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table. They have close relatives with whom they fled Syria that were lucky to be granted sponsorship by the Canadian government in 2016, and they now reside in Hamilton (see below).
Please help us bring this loving family together again, so that all the children can all grow up together in a safe and free community.
100% of the proceeds will go directly toward covering the family's living costs during their first year in Canada, such as housing, furniture, food and supplies, and all other basic necessities. The funds will be collected and held in trust by our sponsorship agreement holder, the Anglican Diocese of Niagara, and managed by our sponsor group to ensure the all donations are being used responsibly and with the family's best interests in mind. Our goal is to help get them on their feet with language and job training so that they are able to support themselves financially by the end of their first year here.
We have already raised half of our $30,000 goal through GoFundMe and community fundraisers. Please help us raise $15,000 more to give this family a better life! Every dollar makes a difference, and we thank you kindly for your support!
Since the refugee program at the Diocese is a registered charity, we are able to issue tax receipts for donations of $10 or more.
