SWAN Rehab Gait Technology Campaign

Crowdfunding to give our patients and community a lift

For more than 13 years, SWAN Rehab has been committed to providing excellent and compassionate care to patients with neurological disorders. Resources for a small business are limited, especially if you are a business that operates debt-free. This is the case here at SWAN Rehab, a Phoenix-based neurological facility that treats conditions such as stroke, brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. SWAN Rehab has thrived in the area, even with competition from other local neuro-rehab hospitals, thanks to the guidance, expertise and compassion of owner Kay Wing, who has been in the neurological industry for over 20 years.

Kay knows that the rising cost of healthcare and benefit cuts have created hardships for some of our patients, and SWAN Rehab has created programs that give back to the community. SWAN offers financial hardship scholarships, started a 501©3 to assist patients, and created the HOPE program for patients who do not have insurance or are underinsured.

SWAN may not have the multi-million dollar budgets of other rehab hospitals, but we do have creativity and heart: we’ve started a crowdfunding campaign to assist with the purchase of a Bioness Vector Gait and Safety System.

The Vector System is a state-of-the-art tool that helps patients with neurological disorders regain or improve their walking and balance skills, along with other functions that are necessary for daily life, but may be compromised because of the patient’s condition. The Vector uses a ceiling mounted rail and robotic trolley to track patient movements along the ground. Because patients are securely fastened in a harness, they can confidently walk and work harder during their rehabilitation without fearing falls or injury. Vector is a Dynamic Body Weight Support System which means therapists can select and adjust an amount of the patient’s body weight to offload in order to assist them in walking and other rehab activities. There’s nothing like it on the market, and it has already improved the lives of thousands of users.  Kay and all of us at SWAN believe it will be an important asset not only to the clinic, but the community.

We are not alone in our desire to equip the clinic with this much-needed resource: “We are committed at this time to aiding (our son’s) current facility in obtaining a device called a Vector Gait and Safety System,” says Scott D, who had a son in treatment at SWAN Rehab. “This advanced technical equipment (an engineering marvel!) holds much promise for our son, and many, many others effected by brain injury or disease to regain independent walking skills…This would be the first of its kind in a Phoenix Valley rehabilitation facility and is all set for immediate installation!”
