[The below was collectively written by friends of the victim and fellow Bay Area organizers and activists, with the victim's consent. We represent at Pride when the protest occurred, and picked them up after their release. The victim has access to the GoFundMe, they do not wish to garner unwanted attention while they recover, so the GoFundMe is managed by a comrade: myself, Shanti. You can message this GoFundMe or DM @uhshanti on Twitter for questions!!]

During this year's San Francisco Pride, a peaceful protest blockaded the parade march route for 50 minutes, to affirm the queer community's collective rejection of corporations and police that have exploited and persecuted them for 50 years. In the course of this action, SFPD brutalized a young trans protester to the point where they were injured and temporarily hospitalized.  The protester, having been released from custody, now faces medical expenses in the thousands and an uncertain legal outcome.

Video of this incident is rapidly spreading around social media, in which SFPD officers clearly shove, yank, and then violently drag an unarmed protester  across the length of Market Street. The protester, who tried repeatedly to move away and was dragged back in, hit their head three times on the ground as a result of the police shoving them. The protester wears glasses and uses a cane as a mobility aide. The police broke both the glasses and the cane when they forcibly handcuffed and zip-tied the victim.

We’ve learned through sources who are close to and monitoring the victim that Bay Area queer advocacy have requested to SFPD that any charges against this comrade be dropped. Their legal future remains uncertain, but in the interim their emergency room and mobility expenses will exceed $2000, and much more will be needed in legal fees should they be charged.

It is not just sad that police brutality against LGBTQ+ people in San Francisco remains a constant reality: it is intentional. Let us stand together against it.

This page has been set up with the consent and review of the victim, and all funds will be transferred directly to them without reservation for their use, specifically for emergency room and fines, and to hire legal counsel should the case proceed to court.
