Help the Grand Putnam Tenants Association raise $3,000 to launch their multi-pronged legal defense for their rent strike.
In 2015, Coastline Apartment Investors bought the tenants’ four historically rent-stabilized buildings in BedStuy. Since that time, the tenants of Grand Putnam Tenants Association (GPTA) -- the majority of whom are long-time residents of color -- have endured harassment, unethical behavior, and building repair negligence. On March 2, 2018 tenants across all four buildings (90 Downing Street, 29 Putnam Avenue,425 Grand Ave, & 425 Grand) went on rent strike.
GIVE TODAY to The Grand Putnam Rent Strikers Legal Defense to fight Coastline Apartment Investors: No donation is too small! These funds are what will enable the Grand Putnam Tenants Association to get the justice they deserve against corrupt landlords!
Background: Here are just some of the abuses the Grand Putnam landlords have inflicted on their tenants:
Removing all of the four buildings' live-in supers, thus leaving residents without someone to address pressing concerns
Calling the police on a 50 year old tenant when when she merely asked construction workers at her building if they had a permit
Neglecting to proactively repair one of the building's lobby ceiling, which later collapsed
Failing to cash tenants' rent checks, then sending those tenants fines for unpaid rent
Failing to address multiple cases of tenants not getting hot water
Failing to send leases in time
Subjecting tenants to dust contaminants with the buildings’ constant construction
Targeting the leadership of the Tenant Association
Employing fear tactics to discourage tenants from joining the Association
As if all those abuses were not enough, the landlords are also currently under investigation by the State Attorney General for FRAUD and CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS.
