Support Maureen's Postgraduate Service in Uganda

Donation protected
Yes, I am going back to Uganda after graduation! Nsabaine isanu! I am filled with joy. Would you be willing to support me in my service efforts?

Lake View Secondary is a beautiful school which serves about 1,000 boarding students in Jinja, Uganda. Lake View's education is rich in the Holy Cross tradition, though the school is challenged by its current financial resources and staff limitations. You can learn more about my first encounters with Lake View from my summer blog  and a reflection for the Holy Cross Missions Center.  Through two trips to Jinja (totaling three months in the last year), I have developed a deep love for Lake View and a profound gratitude for all I have learned from the Holy Cross community in Uganda.

After much prayer and discernment, I believe that God is not finished forming me there. Furthermore, I have the strong desire, and some freedom and ability, to give back to Lake View in a more meaningful and long-term way. I am delighted that my discernment has been mutually affirmed by the local administrators who have invited me to return with an attention to the "relational needs" of the school. My general plan is to begin sixteen months of postgraduate teaching and ministry in July 2019 (concluding in December 2020).

My service will be “independent” while I live and work with Holy Cross. I know I will need various kinds of support for my service. In all humility, I am specifically looking for "partners" to support me through prayer, financial giving, and/or in-kind donations. I hope to invite partners into supporting work from afar which may not be accessible to them at their current stage of life.

Generally, Lake View has asked me to serve as a part-time English Language teacher while I also work as the assistant counselor and campus minister. I have established long-term and short-term goals surrounding the school's relational needs, and I am happy to share those details upon request. My main job will be loving the students, which I am thrilled about! On school holidays, I will help my friend Katie Robben at Let Us Move Mountains, a non-profit which collaborates with local leaders to improve education, employment, and agriculture.

My fundraising goal of $5,000 includes one round-trip flight, international health insurance, in-country travel, and (minimal) room and board to Holy Cross, among other expenses. Any funds raised over $5,000 will be saved for community-based projects with Holy Cross in Jinja and/or Let Us Move Mountains. I don't know what to expect from this fundraising effort, but I will take any provision beyond my service needs to discernment for the community. A small amount of money can go a long way in Uganda - for example, 50 USD for my monthly rent, or 100 USD for a year's primary school tuition.

In the future, I will stay in touch with any interested partners via a monthly email update as well as a public blog. I will keep supporters in prayer on a daily basis. And I will be incredibly thankful for anyone who is able to support me as I make my way on this journey. It has already taken a lot of trust, and I am grateful for God's providence and the support of my family and friends which have made it possible thus far.

Webale inho! Thank you very much.

With gratitude,
Maureen
