Support Handsome Her

Handsome Her is a cafe that has been built with the community rather than just for it. 

We are new on the block, only opening our doors in August last year. 

Since then we have led a number of community projects:
- We have raised over $3000 for women's charities through various fundraisers and our controversial "man tax"
- We have raised funds for Aboriginal youth and animal rights organisations
- We have hosted various events put forth by members of our community such as a women's public housing forum, women's conversation/consciousness raising evenings, women's economic empowerment sessions, the repel the 8th Irish abortion rights campaign fundraiser, lesbian social gatherings and hang-out sessions, film screenings, and many many more.

We are not just a cafe, but a link to the community and a space for people to gather, support each other, and share ideas. Every day we are visited by neighbours who are in need of a helping hand. They come to us because we provide a safe space where they are welcomed and accepted despite their class, race or income. Some of the people who visit us are homeless, others are women who have left difficult or abusive relationships, and many are members of the older community who face marginalisation of varying degrees. It is such a joy and pleasure for us to get to know these neighbours and watch them form connections and friendships with other communities of people within our four walls. We believe that Handsome Her brings people together and in doing so, fosters a sense of self-worth, happiness and power in those who are used to being rejected and isolated. 

However, as many will know, running a small business is a tough gig. Acting ethically, including paying fair wages, saying no to disposable coffee cups and single use straws and napkins, only serving vegan products and plant milks, re-cycling coffee grind and keeping prices affordable and accessible to the wider community continues to put us at a disadvantage which is hard to climb out of (especially during the winter months).
