Please donate to Julio Ramirez’s fundraiser! All the money, minus a required small percentage taken by Gofundme.com, will support legal aid for Julio, rent, utilities, bills, and a phone account to allow Julio to speak to his friends and family while he’s in detention.

You can also support by signing this petition to Demand  Due Process for Julio and All Immigrants Detained by ICE!

Julio Ramirez is a beloved and hardworking business owner, student,  and dear friend who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on October 15, 2018. He is currently in detention at the Suffolk County ICE Detention Center (South Bay). Julio is originally from Guatemala but Massachusetts is his home. He has been living and contributing to Massachusetts for 14 years and is a law abiding member of our community.

Julio contributes tremendously to the social and economic fabric of his community. He is an active volunteer with the legal nonprofit Justice at Work and participates in many community organizations, including the Brazilian Worker Center, Student Immigrant Movement, and Mass Jobs with Justice. Just days before his detention Julio graduated from the leadership course of the Brazilian Worker Center's Building Justice Committee, which trains leaders in the residential construction industry to support workers efforts to obtain dignity and justice on the job.

Julio’s industrious spirit, desire to learn, and infectious positive energy are assets to our community. He could qualify for bond, but we need your support by donating here and writing letters of support. Please help prevent Julio’s deportation and get him out of detention!

We have good news to share regarding Julio's case!

Firstly, THANK YOU so much for donating to Julio's fund! Your contributions have not gone unnoticed, and they are critical to stopping Julio's detention and deportation by ICE.

We are happy to report that Julio was transported to district court on Wednesday, December 5th and resolved his pending case with a not guilty verdict! We packed the courtroom and sent a strong message of support to the judge and ACLU lawyers in attendance. Everyone's hard work is bringing positive attention to Julio's case and awareness to the constitutional rights of immigrants. Your contributions have played a significant role in making this happen!

Now that Julio has resolved his criminal case favorably, we are in a position to ask for another bond hearing. We've done a fantastic job raising money for Julio's legal defense, but we'll need more to post bond. Please continue to share this Julio's fund within your networks. And again, THANK YOU for your support - you've truly made a difference in Julio's case!

In solidarity,

Team Julio

Thank you for your support of Julio! Unfortunately Julio was denied bond last week, and he remains in detention.

We have just launched a petition:

https://www.change.org/p/suffolk-county-da-demand-due-process-for-julio-and-all-immigrants-detained-by-ice

to urge the Suffolk County and Middlesex County DAs, and Suffolk County Sheriff to prioritize working with ICE to get Julio into Cambridge District Court so he can resolve a pending charge. Julio was denied bond because of the pending charge, despite an outpouring of support from friends, family, organizations, and elected officials.

The problem is that Julio remains in ICE detention because he has been *accused* of a crime, but ICE may PREVENT him from resolving that accusation precisely because he is in detention. This is a catch-22 that undermines Julio’s (and everyone’s) constitutional right to due process.

Please read and sign the petition, and share within your networks.

Thank you!!

Note as required by GoFundMe platform: This fundraiser is managed by a group of Julio's close friends. We have opened a separate bank account into which all funds will be deposited. These funds will be used to pay for legal and living costs while Julio is in detention (as described above). All funds will be immediately transferred to Julio once he is released from detention.
