Support Fallen Afghan Journalists

Donation protected

On April 30th, nine Afghan journalists were killed in a double suicide bombing in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul.  All of them were breadwinners who left behind families in need.

These journalists survived on meager incomes, and most of them did not have life insurance. Days before the incident, one of them had sold his bicycle to seek treatment for a sick mother. Another, a young female reporter, had just moved to a better-paying job to support her family.

"An incident doesn't begin with the explosion - it begins with the cries of a mother, a sister, a wife at a home where a man who left alive in the morning is brought back in a coffin three hours later," said Farahnaz Frotan, a reporter from Tolo news.

While a few of the families have life insurance and are being helped by their organizations, such as the AFP photographer Shah Marai, others left behind family members who are now in desperate need. Our aim is to raise funds to prevent these families of the slain journalists from falling in to destitution.

The funds raised will be distributed to the families, providing them with means of support.

International and local media have organised this campaign and will ensure that the funds reach the families.  Instructions for contacting the campaign organiser are as follows:  https://support.gofundme.com/hc/en-us/articles/203639894-Contacting-a-Campaign-Organizer
