ABOUT THE GOFUNDME:
This effort is to raise registration funds for people wanting to take the 4 Day Street Medic Intensive happening in Tampa on August 3rd through August 6th who want to attend, but cannot afford it. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required since the trainer is coming all the way to Tampa from states to the north. 100 percent of the money goes towards the trainer's travel expenses to get here and return from whence they came. We want and need for this training to be accessible to everyone in our community. These funds will cover 6 more registrants joining us.
ABOUT THE PURPOSE:
It cannot be overstated how CRITICALLY important it is for us to learn how to take care of one another. At gatherings, at demonstrations, in disaster, in protest, in every day life, we need to be our own "911" This is a training that we have been trying to organize here for over a year.
ABOUT THE LOGISTICS:
-You come come for one, two, three or four days of the intensive if your job/school only allows you to do so.
-The training will be held at the Seminole Heights Community Acupuncture Clinic in Tampa's Old Seminole Heights
-The clinic has also generously closed their doors for those four days so intensive trainees can also stay, sleep, eat and exist in the space in the event that you do not live nearby.
-Tampa Food Not Bombs will be serving snacks and meals during the intensive.
-The clinic has a refrigerator and kitchen sink, two bathrooms, a zine distro, large, beautiful gathering spaces and comfortable large recliners.
ABOUT THE INTENSIVE:
Learn the skills for the Right Now emergencies. There is no time to google for the answer, you can't consult your mentors, the stars, or your power animal, you need to act NOW ! Now what? Skills that will help us to take care of ourselves and each other. This class will start you off in the fundamental skill of emergency care in urban, suburban, rural, wilderness, and disaster (short, long, and very long ) emergency situations. It will be challenging and you will begin learning skills from quality patient assessment to detailed treatment across the broad spectrum from urban environment care within the present functioning medical system and street medic work, to survival medicine in a breakdown scenario. Class times : 9-5 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. August 3-6, 2017
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Charly Aurelia was a National Registered Paramedic with almost two decades of experience in urban, street medic, suburban, large event, rural, wilderness, and disaster emergency care and rescue. He also was a Pre-Hospital Medicine Professor at 4 colleges, as well as training many Fire/EMS departments in the states of New York, Connecticut, and Maine. He served on a Disaster Medical Assistance Team and was both a Firefighter/Paramedic and a Fire Officer. His training and experience include high angle, structural collapse, trench, confined space, vehicle extrication, flatwater, swiftwater, and ice rescue. Additionally, he has experience in structural, interface and wildland fire mitigation and command. as well as being a Hazardous Materials Technician and having training in wilderness search and rescue as command in a lost person incident. Charly also practices and teaches nonviolent /conscious communication skills. He has been teaching emergency medical care, self protection, outdoor skills, and communication skills for over two decades.
