Give Sophia a Farming Opportunity
Sophia is our teen foster daughter that we're in the process of adopting. (We cannot use her real name or her photo for privacy reasons.) As you can imagine, like most foster kids, she has had a rough start to life. We are working to provide her with a stable home and many opportunities to grow - including summer work reflective of these goals.
Sophia has a unique opportunity to volunteer this summer at Eighth Day Farm, a local, non-profit, urban farm. Through this endeavor she will learn about healthy eating (something she's shown great interest in), will be mentored by nurturing people, and she will be able to take pride in the results of hard work.
We anticipate Sophia will volunteer an average of 25 hours a week from June through August. Because she will be spending the same time volunteering as most students spend working during the summer, we hope to provide her with a stipend of $1,000 to help value her work. Currently Eighth Day Farm does not have the means to assist with this stipend, so we are hoping to raise this amount ourselves. We plan on ending the campaign on June 30th.
