3rd Annual Solidarity Not Charity Bike Ride

O.V.A.S would like to invite you to this all inclusive Bike Ride to distribute care packages to the homeless community living on the streets of Boyle Heights! 

For the entire month of December the ovas are collecting funds and the items listed below to assemble and distribute as many care packages on our bikes! Over the past2 years we have managed to distribute a total of over 500 care packages.   The ovas welcome you to join us on your bike or car while we ride around BH to various homeless camps to distribute the care packages and to connect with this community that is too often outkasted and stigmatized! Homelessness can happen to anyone of us! Come out and help us distribute the packages.

Each Care Package will include but is not limited to the following items:

-2 pairs of socks (preferably wool)
-A warm blanket
-1 pair of gloves
-A scarf
-Baby wipes
-Chapstick
-Waterless shampoo
-Personal DIY first aid kit
-Lotion and body spray
-A beanie
-2 pairs of clean (never used)underwear
-DIY Hygiene Kit (pads and tampons will be included)
-Bottle water
-Snacks (ex: granola bars, emergen-c packets, etc)
-A list of resources in BH for quick and easy shelter
-A list of Squatting rights and laws against police harrasment (FTP!!)


If you plan on riding with us to distribute the care packages please keep the following things in mind:

1. Take the time to speak and most importantly LISTEN to the folks we will be coming across. Don't assume that you know why they are homeless

2. Smile and don't try and push religious rhetoric onto the people you come across. 

3. Remember that we are not here to save people! We are not trying to fall into the white saviour complex!

- WORKING BIKE ( bike mechanic will be present for donation based repairs)

-HELMET

-COMFORTABLE CLOTHES & SHOES. IT WILL BE A LIL COLD SO BRING YOUR LAYERS TO STAY WARM

-WATER CONTAINER**WATER WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR REFILLS**

-SNACKS

-AN OPEN MIND AND HEART

-BRING YOUR FAMILY!! THIS IS A FAMILY AND KID FRIENDLY RIDE!!


This is Solidarity Not Charity!! Dismantling the unjust systems that cause homelessness is more important than alleviating the symptoms caused by it!! Always remember that not just for the Holidays but every other day of the year! Connect with Other collectives in BH that are actively fighting and resisting homelessness and gentrification!!
