Skyler Quinten Dees  CHICAGO, IL

Skyler Dees Catering Company provides quality and thoughtfully prepared food created by Chef Skyler Dees.  Skyler chooses to use his talents to directly address North Lawndale's nutritional depravity and food desert issue.

This amount begins and completes kitchen/retail build-out of a newly acquired commercial space in North Lawndale's MLK Legacy Apartments complex. This amount also covers start-up costs to open the doors of Skyler Dees Catering Company.  Skyler aligns himself with King's dream of economic justice in the same spot where MLK's personal demonstration of housing injustice took place.

This business began seven months ago as a way to fulfill catering needs for neighborhood and professional friends. Then grew with specialty pies for 2016 holiday season. And has arrived at weekly lunch preparation and delivery for families and professionals who live and work within North Lawndale.

Skyler Dees Catering Company will offer nutritious and handmade to-go meals for more resident and professionals to enjoy. Skyler utilizes social entrepreneurship to change the narrative of North Lawndale's current state of violence and economic disinvestment.

Skyler grew up in North Lawndale, attended William Penn Elementary School and North Lawndale College Prep.  Skyler is currently collaborating with School of the Art Institute of Chicago at Homan Square for a spring community gardening class.  And Skyler prepares healthy meals for forty-five elementary and high school students at Young Men's Education Network (YMEN).
