Erase Shoreline School Lunch Debt
$2,443 of $2,433 goal
The total negative balance for the Shoreline School District is $2432.69. It is our goal to raise this by Dec 31st, 2016.
Sara Betnel, Nicole Ruttenberg, and I thank you for helping Shoreline take care of all of its children.
EDIT 12/23/16 We Did It!!!! Thank you, Thank you Thank you!!! As soon as the district office opens next week, we will work on transfering the funds to them. Our hearts are full from all the support from the community! We hope this brings each of these families some joy and relief this holiday.
Sara, Nicole, and Amber
We are excited to let you know that Nicole, Sara, and I met with Jessica Finger, the Director of Food and Nutrition Services at the Shoreline School District, on Tuesday to give her the check. We also completed an allocation form that is very specific as to how the $$ will be spent. The gist is that the family advocates for each school will be asked to determine which of the overdue balances to pay off first. The reason for this is to avoid paying the balance of those of us (like me!) who are periodically just not on top of things but do not actually require assistance.
After those balances are paid, they will focus on the lunch debt of 2016 graduating seniors. Clearing up 2016 graduate debt helps them be clear of this so they can, if there are no other outstanding fees, get their transcripts and move forward without money hanging over them or their families.
Remaining funds will be held in an account for family advocates to request for future lunch debt.
Thanks to your generosity and the cooperation of Jessica Finger, the folks at Food Services, and the family advocates, the school lunch balances of those in need will be taken care of. We have been so inspired at how many people enthusiastically came together to make this happen.
Amber, Sara, Nicole
We are almost half way to our goal! Thank you everyone who has contributed and shared this page!
Nicole posted a beautiful quote by Elizibeth Gilbert that I wanted to share with you. "Those of us who are warm and dry and safe and well fed must show up for those who are cold and wet and endangered and hungry. That's a rule of life. Every ethical and religious and spiritual tradition in the world agrees on that rule. "
Thanks for showing up.

Children from poor families get free lunches. If a child forgets money in account they don't give them a hot lunch, they get a sack lunch of PB&J and a Apple and a milk. Who are you kidding. Of last destroyed our children's lunches period have you seen what she has them all eating. Waste all waste kids don't eat it period. Why feed a child if they won't eat it ? Be real and do home work. Our tax dollars pay for that slop!
Chuck Benton, I don't think you are getting the point. If these schools don't feed more than what you had or what Gayle Lipe said was junk, the kids are just going to throw it away, then it is a total non help to you or other students and to the tax payers. They need to start giving these children good nutritious and tasty meals, or all their efforts and tax paid money goes in the trsh can. Gayle was speaking of children like yourself (at the time), who deserve better than what you got and tax payers should not have valuable money wasted.
in response to gayle pb and j is not what they recieve seeing as how i was one of the kids who wasnt able to get lunch you know what we got one slice of bread with one slice of proccesed cheese now let you sit on your oh so precious "tax dollars" and think about that
This is a great idea!!
