Operation Dream:
In December of 1994, a San Francisco community center was burglarized by drug addicts and over 300 toys were stolen, threatening to ruin the Holiday joy for many impoverished children and their families. Upon hearing about this incident, a group of concerned police officers who were born and raised in San Francisco and were nurtured by neighborhood youth centers decided to make a difference and help these kids.
They made contact with Redwood City's fire department who donated over 1,500 toys to these officers to restore the Holiday cheer to that community. Not only were they able to replace what that community center lost, they provided an additional 1200 toys to other children across the city and collected food to feed those families in need.
From this single incident these Officers decided to form a non-profit organization and dedicate their lives to improving the overall quality of life for impoverished children in those areas effected by crime, hunger and poverty.
The name of this Non-profit is Operation DREAM (which stands for Diverse Response to Education Activities and Mentorship) and for 20 years has sought to encourage and give our youth the opportunities to excel in the realm of education, employment, and reward these children with activities outside of their environment.
Through the efforts of these officers they were able to reduce crime when arrests could not and built an aura of trust between communities and the officers patrolling there.
Our Toy Drive donors helped DREAM grow so that we were able to provide 20,000 toys annually to children throughout the city.
We want to thank the San Francisco 49ers for their 20 years of being a major supporter of the our toy drive to support youth in underserved communities of San Francisco. The San Francisco 49ers graciously allowed Operation DREAM to solicit monetary donations and toys from their fans at Candlestick Park. The San Francisco 49ers continue to support the program as a good community partner. But we still need help.
The support of the public to this cause would be greatly appreciated. Due to economics, every year more children go without toys and gifts for the Holidays. We need your financial assistance which will enable us to provide over 20,000, toys and gifts to families in need throughout San Francisco. It is through your generous donations and caring that we are able to spread Holiday cheer.
The San Francisco Police Department’s Operation D.R.E.A.M. is looking for financial support with their annual Toy Drive. Over the years, our organization, Operation D.R.E.A.M, has offered many families special Holiday moments of cheer and the Joyous spirit of giving during the Holiday Season. The Holiday cheer will not happen this year for these families without your support. Operation D.R.E.A.M will need $20,000.00 for this year’s annual Toy Drive.
