Send Ron to 2019 Masters World Tournament

Donation protected
Hi  People,

I'm Ron Cole, a local non-profit coordinator who graduated from Humboldt State in Recreation Administration and came to Del Norte County to make a life. In my pursuit to help kids learn self awareness and healthy relationships I came across the activity of disc golf. While building courses and teaching the fundamentals to kids and adults I found I had a gift for the sport. In the last 15 years I've taken that gift as far as I can regionally winning several major tournaments. In recognition of my success the Professional Disc Golf Association has invited me to compete in the 2019 Masters World Tournament and I'm asking your help to get there …

The vision

I am planning a trip to Vermont to compete with some of the best golfers in the world.  My vision for this experience is three-fold.

First, I live for the out of doors and the spiritual connection I get there. I don’t make much money and the extra time allows me to build programs from a more centered and relaxed place.  I believe their effectiveness results from sharing personal experience and, as an educator in general and promoter of disc golf I don’t have the unique experience that comes with competing at the highest levels of the sport.  I feel  I am currently a lower case "p" professional.  I want to be a capitol "P" Professional and be able to carry and share the responsibility, knowledge and experience that comes from performing with the best.

Second, I'm inspired to go because I've spent the last 10 years competing on some of the most difficult courses with some of the best players in the northwest. I've been told  I'm as good as any at the top of my division and that I could be one of the best.  The truth is, I would question myself the rest of my life if I didn't make the attempt.  When I was a kid I remember being surrounded by "could'ves," - the grandmother who could've been a great singer if she'd tried, the relative who could've made millions if he could focus on one thing, or the dad who could've been a great outdoor educator but felt it was more important to be secure. They all had to follow their path and so do I.

And third, this whole GoFundMe process has been a scary/tremendous growth experience.  It's relatively easy to ask for money for other people and causes, i.e. summer camps, theater, Pastels in the Park but  the question that’s hard to face is, am I personally worthy of support? Who wants to see that answer? But if I don't put myself out there I'll never know.  A friend and fellow board member of Gateway Education, Adrianna, said one of the things she’s heard people say is that I don’t ask enough for my programs. Well Adrianna, it starts here, I'm hoping to raise $5000 over the next three weeks to drop the Ron Bomb on Worlds! If I can do that, I should be able to do the other.

Why Crowd funding?
Crowd Funding is a way a group of people can contribute a little bit to something they feel a connection to to make a big cumulative difference. For the receiver it maximizes the efficiency of their outreach and lets them know they are part of a family.
While sponsorship's do a lot they only go so far. If you have ever been a part of my programs or felt that what I do has had any impact on your life or someone’s close to you I hope you will consider helping me go to Worlds.

Other ways you can help

1.     Help me spread the word! Use this link to share on social media and email: https://www.gofundme.com/send-ron-to-2019-masters-world-tournament

2.    Take a disc golf lesson with me (and donate!) or any Wild Rivers Disc Golf Club member.  Get to know the disc golf culture and bring a fresh perspective to the sport.

3.     Support Gateway Education’s Coyote Disc Golf Program! Whether it is financially (to me!) or through volunteering, they are working on amazing projects and tournaments in the northern California/southern Oregon region. They are looking for volunteers to clear, plant, prune, garden, and run tournaments. Get involved!

My Partners and Sponsors

I'd really like to thank those people who have sponsored and supported me thus far:

Wild Rivers Disc Golf Club
Gateway Education’s Board for its support of the Coyote Disc Golf program
Griffin’s Furniture Outlet for its support of all things disc golf in Del Norte County

And everyone who has known and supported me and put up with my appeals to play throughout my disc golf career, thank you so much. I would not want to continue this amazing journey without you.

And just so we are clear, there is no obligation to participate. I love you you all whether you help or not. Living  and competing here has been and continues to be a lovely experience. In the event any funds are unused they will be donated to Gateway Education’s Coyote Disc Golf program for future disc golf clinics and developments.

Much love and thanks to all,
