Sedna Epic Expedition

Donation protected
I am proud to announce, I have been selected to join the Sedna Epic Expedition! Here is a brief description of the goals of the expedition:

"Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote in Canada, the Sedna Epic Expedition’s sea women will mount their third polar dive and snorkel expedition to the High Arctic (since 2014), scouting, documenting and recording disappearing sea ice.

The Sedna Epic is comprised of a team of women ocean explorers, scientists, artists, educators, adventurers, and medical and scuba diving professionals from Canada, the USA and Mexico. Sedna’s sea women aim to create citizen scientists in Nunavut, empowering youth, girls and young women to become the next generation of Inuit leaders to tackle climate change, ocean change and societal change in the Arctic. During August 4-18, 2018, in partnership with Adventure Canada and Ocean Quest Adventures, Sedna’s sea women will explore Nunavut and western Greenland." (http://www.sednaepic.com/)

I am absolutely honoured to have been selected for this opportunity! There are many reasons I want to be a part of this team. The first and most obvious reason is because I love the ocean and am constantly looking for ways I can help protect it. The expedition will give me the opportunity to explore more of the ocean; the arctic has always held a place in my heart and I'm so excited to finally be able to experience this part of the ocean.

The second reason I want to be on this trip is because of the people I will meet! The team is entirely composed of women. How unique! I am so excited to learn about my team members; their stories, how they came to be in the environmental field and anything else they can teach me. Additionally, I will be doing outreach and eductation in various Inuit communities which will also allow me to meet the next generation of ocean explorers. The Inuit communities have such a personal relationship with the ocean; I want to listen to their stories and hopes for the future of the arctic. Above all else, I'm excited about what I will learn from everyone I meet during this trip!

Finally, the experience in my field will be unparallel to anything I have participated in thus far. To be able to snorkel in the arctic will open my eyes to an entirely new world. I will learn about the conservation issues and how these issues affect the animals and the people residing in the arctic.

Again, I am honoured to be a team member on this Expedition. I hope this experience will help my leadership skills grow but most of all, I want to inspire more people to care about the ocean.
