Addressing The Root Cause

Donation protected
I know I am not alone with my incredible discomfort with asking for money but I have decided to ignore those feelings.  The work I am doing with the World Summit is too important to allow my pride to get in the way of making it possible for me to do this full time for as long as possible. I am no longer going to feel ashamed to ask the people that I love to be a part of making this incredible world changing project work.

Why Is This Project Necessary?

It is not a revelation to say that the current global socioeconomic system is the root cause of every major problem that we see in the world and yet we are all focused on addressing the symptoms.  I am now working on a project that has real potential to eliminate that root cause.

There are several possible alternatives to the current model and there are hundreds of thousands of individuals who know this, and there are countless groups and organisations that have been working on ways to make those models a reality for decades.  It’s been a long, slow process but the dots are starting to get joined up.  We are experiencing a global change in consciousness as humanity starts to realise that the status quo is quite simply not okay.

How Will This Project Work?

The World Summit is (excuse the expression) capitalising on that shift in consciousness at just the right time.  We are not another of these groups but an amalgamation of individuals who represent them and the hundreds of thousands of people who absolutely have no doubt that a beautiful world is not only possible but within reach.  Our goal is to unify these unifiers and help them to pool their knowledge, resources and skills in such a way that it will provide the catalyst we need to make these new, life supporting, systems a reality.

We are doing this by connecting the groups virtually and inviting them to have their input into the organisation of an event that will connect them physically in the summer of 2019.  We are going to unify the innovators, change makers, experts in politics, economics, technology and communications with one goal…to build a new system that makes the old one obsolete.  We are not asking the governments for permission to make changes anymore, it is not in the interest of the jailers to give the inmates the keys.  Instead we’re building a tunnel to get us all out.  I have never believed in anything as strongly as I believe in the fact that this will actually work.

What is the World Summit Actually Doing?

This is a momentous task, but not one that frightens us.  We are currently divided into six teams;

Technology and Governance – focusing on developing the technology and governance systems that will make this event possible.  We are resisting democracy and any top down hierarchical methods of governance, which means developing a sociocratic model that gives everyone both autonomy and a voice.  This is not a simple task, but in the few months since we started working together the process has evolved organically and we have proven that it works between us and now we are testing the scalability.  We are also developing platforms for useful and co-operative interaction between us and the groups that are joining us.  The website is in the middle of a complete overhaul to accurately represent the World Summit and what it is doing.  I am a member of this team along with four other ‘Worldies’.

Communication – this team’s responsibilities include focusing on how we communicate with each other.  We advocate the use of nonviolent communication in all our interactions, this is new for many of us and this team is dedicated to training and producing learning materials for everyone that wants to be involved in what we are creating.  This team is also responsible for editing every document that we make visible to the public and to each other.  We are currently developing our social media presence and are heavily involved in producing content for the Website development sub team.  The Outreach Team is also a sub team of the Communication team and is responsible for contacting groups and individuals to invite them to join our project.  They also facilitate videoconferencing calls to take place at all times of day and night to account for the time differences across the globe.  This is another part of the project that I am very actively involved with.

The Event – this team is focused on planning the physical event.  The logistics of this are incredible.  They have to consider the practicalities of how long the event will run as well as where and when the event will take place and sourcing equipment and materials as well as working on the programme of activities that will take place.  Every time this team meet and make decisions the results are shared for the rest of the group to see and have input on.  We have developed easy to use systems of sharing, commenting, editing and finalising documents to ensure we continue to work together and stay focused on the single goal of unity.

The Transition – a small team who will have far more to do as we get closer to the physical event as they are focused on the organic evolution from our current paradigm to the next.

The World Summit Free Café Network – this team is working at creating spaces all over the world for changemakers to get together to exchange knowledge, resources and skills in the run up to the main event.  It is expected that these cafes will also be responsible for hosting satellite events that will feel into the main event and allow a greater number of changemakers to be actively involved in the workshops.  This network is growing daily and requires constant support from the team to ensure we are all gaining all we can from the already free flowing ideas.

Alternative Funding – with probably the hardest job of all this team is responsible for finding ways for us to bypass the existing systems in place for obtaining the resources we need.  Wherever possible we do not want to use money, and if we do use it we don’t want to use banks.  This is not an easy task but it is fundamental to the success of the World Summit and they are doing an incredible job.

While I am only a member of three of these teams each of the 18 delegates are actively involved in everything that each team produces and develops and we could not possibly be more serious and dedicated to this task.

Why Should You Donate?

Right now, there are just 18 of us working every hour that we have available.  For three of us that means working on it full time for now as we have managed to self-fund enough to give ourselves a little time and space to do that, but we will also have to resort to doing it part time if we don’t raise the funds we need to cover our basic needs.  There is no doubt that we will still achieve our goal, but we will achieve it faster and more effectively if we are able to free up the delegates’ time to devote themselves to the task.  This is your opportunity to get involved in something that will result in a huge and positive shift in the paradigm.

Where Will Your Money Go?

One of the reasons why we have chosen to base ourselves in Mexico is due to the very low cost of living here.  For me to be able to work full time on this I need a space to live and work in, which includes cooking facilities, gas, electricity, water and wifi.  Depending on how many people I am going to be able to share with that will cost anything from £100-£350.  On top of that I also need to buy food, being vegan helps keep that down to a very reasonable £100 a month.  I also need to have a little for unforeseen expenses.  My flip flops broke two days ago so I had to fork out £3 for a new pair…this is the sort of thing that I’m referring to and £50 will easily be enough to cover all eventualities.  So at the moment I am looking to raise £500 to ensure I am able to be here for June, I would of course like to be here for longer, but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I will not be living like a queen out here and I am 100% dedicated to the work that I am doing.  Will I occasionally grab a six pack of beers and head to the beach or one of the local cenotes for some downtime, yes, yes I will, but there will be no expensive nights out and I will not be living excessively.  I just plan to keep myself sane enough to enjoy the new world when it happens.  If I am lucky enough to get enough donations that I have money left at the end of the month then it will go towards funding another month, or it will go towards other legitimate World Summit expenses.  I promise that you’re not going to see pictures of me in a pair of new Jimmy Choos on Instagram!

Thank you for learning a little more about what is driving me right now, please contact me if you have any questions about the World Summit or my role with them.  You can also visit the website at www.worldsummit.global.

I hope that I have inspired you to accept my invitation to be a part of this incredible project.
