Help Scott Drive Again

The Backstory
Scott Gordon needs some help. You may have already seen a GoFundMe for him back in November 2016. He developed a massive heart infection the first week of November. The infection caused 3 major strokes and an anuerism in his brain over a three week period of time. He ended up having a procedure in his brain to repair the anuerism and open heart surgery to clear out the infection ,repair his aorta and replace his aortic heart valve. The surgery was the week of Thanksgiving. He has been working hard to get his life back ever since he left the rehab hospital in December. It's a slow process.

We had asked for help with medical bills and their day to day bills and expenses. Everyone was wonderful and your generosity has helped them get through. Now the next steps begin:

The Current Situation
The strokes left some pretty serious after-effects. He still struggles with some memory and processing deficits in his brain, as well as some emotional challenges. His right side is impaired, mostly his right leg. He has to wear a brace on his leg and foot as his foot flops when he walks due to nerve damage from the strokes. This means he can't drive as he can't control that foot well enough to work the foot pedals. Scott is working with Vocational Rehabilitaion to get help so he can go back to work. They have approved to pay for and place the hand controls in a car for him.
Here is were he needs your help. The car has to be less than 10 years old and in a condition that he can afford to maintain. He current vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Caliber. Clearly older than is allowed. Since he hasn't worked in 6 mos he also doesn't have the income to buy a suitable vehicle. The previous GoFundMe has allowed he and his wife Jennifer to pay their existing bills, stay above water, but there isn't enough to buy a car. Jenn works, but it's not enough to be approved to buy a car. They need help to get this vehicle. They don't want to purchase anything fancy, just something quality that will meet their transportation needs. It makes sense for it to be as new as possible so that it won't need any major maintenance until he is back to work, and can last as long as possible so they don't have to go through the hand control thing again too soon.

Scott had a good job when he got sick, but hadn't been there long enough to qualify for disability through the company. He has had no income since he got sick. His job was physical, on his feet all day, 50+ hours a week. He can't do that anymore. He needs to go back to school to train for something else. Once Scott has a car that can be converted to the hand controls he can attend the classes to retrain him into a job he can do with his disability. Voc Rehab will help pay for the training, but he has to be able to get there. He was a hard worker and wants to be again. He hates being stuck at home. In the meantime, applying for disability is his current option. That can take a long time.

Please know that Scott is not the kind of guy that will let a gift like this go. He and Jenn pay it forward. They work with kids and music. Scott is an avid trumpet player. He can't play so much right now, but the heart is still there. Jenn is a Band teacher/director. She's looking for a teaching position right now. They currently work with a local high school band to help them with their performances and competitions. Jenn also works at Indiana University Southeast as the pep band director; those students are high school through adult. Music and kids are what they do, all the time. They also do music in their church. Being able to touch kids through music is a gift.

How you can help
If you are moved in any way by Scott's story and are in a position to help him it is so greatly appreciated. If it touches you, but you can't send anything then help him in another way. Tell people about his situation, maybe they can help. Pray for him and Jenn, we believe in the power of prayer.

God bless you for taking the time to read his story. However you help, Prayers, sharing or money, I thank you.
