Saving Grace Support Group

My name is Katie.  I was sexually assaulted in September 2017.  I spent 6 hours in the emergency room that evening and got back home around 6am.  As I was laying in bed, in tears, I just kept saying over and over how something good has to come out of this.  I absolutely have to help other victims survive this long treacherous road.  How can anyone do this without support?  So many do not have any at all and many others never tell a sole what happened to them. 

Through months of therapy and support from God, family and friends I have finally come to a place where I must help others get through this as well.   I am starting a support group where I am going to host a meeting at least once every two weeks and more as this organization grows.  God has definitely been guiding me and showing me the path and steps to take for this journey. 

I am also starting my Masters of Art in Counseling in the Fall.  I originally was planning on nursing because I just have a deep compassion and desire to help everyone I can that is hurting now.  One morning I woke up and God showed me a different path I could take.  Then my therapist said, "I think you should consider counseling".  I thought "Wow, twice in an hour"  this must really be my path.  Then literally almost every where I went I would have people sit down beside me and just start telling me things about their life.  I would listen and offer encouragement.  This is still happening on a daily basis. 

I would really like to turn this into a non-profit organization where survivors can come together in a safe place.  Sexual assault is a very difficult thing to talk about but its much easier when you know the person beside you has been through what you have.  There is power in numbers but there is more power in words.  I will not stop sharing my story.  Sexual assault stigma needs to change.  I will do whatever it takes to make that happen. 

I hope my team grows quickly.  I am excited for this adventure.
