Save Their Home

Life has a way of placing each of us in interchangeable roles of recipient and giver of kindness, depending on the circumstances we encounter.  We have all, at some point, benefited from someone's unexpected generosity or inclusion.

Today, we are asking you to take pause and reach deep in to your heart and your pockets to help a loving family on the verge of losing their first home. We are asking you to read their story and find a way to turn the compassion you will feel in to a statement of justice and broader human support, quite possibly for a group of people you might never meet, but who will certainly never forget your support facing seemingly insurmountable hardship.  We are asking that some small sacrifice on your end join a bigger call to make a difference for seven beloved people in our small community.

A little less than a year ago, this family purchased their first home, a long-time dream of theirs. Two incomes were coming in at the time, one from the dad’s full-time job as a metro bus driver, the other from long term insurance  due to the mother’s debilitating fight with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Epilepsy.

Shortly after settling in, the mother was informed that her insurance renewal was rejected. Much to the incredulity of her doctors and community, she would no longer receive this critical income that allowed her to contribute to her family’s dream of home ownership.

While she experienced multiple seizures daily and chronic pain often limited her ability to perform even the most basic household tasks, the insurance doctors had deemed her fully functioning. This was against the strong medical opinion of her team of specialists who had treated her for years. This reality meant the father’s income was immediately redirected to cover food, basic utilities such as heat and electricity and gas to get to work.

Times are hard for a family who has given the shirt off their back to others in their hour of need. Your help would bless a family much beloved for the kindnesses they have provided to others in times of difficulty. The mother offers free childcare when families struggle to make ends meet. They have donated food and money to those facing misfortune and volunteered in their faith community. The father, until recently, volunteers with his sons’ boy scouts troops. Help us show them that such goodness matters and that it can save, and even change, seven beautiful futures.

Their only car is now breaking down with no money to fix it. In a snowball effect, this is threatening the husband’s ability to get to work and provide and to take his family to much needed medical appointments. Added to this unanticipated hardship, was the reality that three of the five boys also struggled with profound neurological disabilities and also have multiple appointments and therapies. There is no extra money for shoes or clothes and winter is fast approaching. The father is on the phone with bill payers and the bank every waking hour he is not working and the bank has indicated they will not start foreclosure proceedings if they can make one month of mortgage payments.

We are asking for you to play a part in reversing this fast track towards homelessness and loss. Together, we can help remind this family that goodness is real and abundance is available to them in their time of need.

Your donation will go to help reverse months of underpayment of their mortgage and catch up on utility bills.  Your donation would make a difference. Your donation would mean they could get back on there feet with a plan.
