Save The Banner House Inn
OUR STORY
My name is Elizabeth Daley. My Aunt Murri Chase is currently an owner and caretaker of a property in upstate NY called The Banner House Inn. I am starting this go fund me campaign for her and my cousin’s Megan and Meredith who would be the 6th generation Chase owners.
THE HISTORY
The great thing about The Banner House is it’s not only family owned for generations it’s also a historical landmark. It's one of the oldest resorts in the Adirondacks. It was started as a lodge for hunters and fisherman in the 1830's called The Lake House and grew from there soon becoming a destination for many visitors including a famous painter A.F. Tait, who created two of his paintings during his stay at the Lake House. The property was then purchased by the first member of the Chase family in 1832 and passed down from generation to generation of Chase relatives. Pauline Chase was the 4th generation to own the property until her death in April of 1996 when it was left to my Aunt Murri and Uncle Stewart Chase who took it over.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Unfortunately after my Uncle left, my Aunt was left to care for the property on her own. She has done her best to keep it up and has been making ends meet and paying current taxes however there were years when she was unable to do so. She owes over $55,000 in back taxes and unless we find a way to come up with the money she and my cousins will lose it forever. This is where this campaign comes in. This place was and still is a big part of my life. I spent many summers there growing up. My Aunt even gave me my first job there helping out with dishes and cleaning of the cabins. I have always wished there was a way to help and I finally found it. Many generations of families came to The Banner House Inn for year’s right up until my Aunt was unable to keep it up for guests. In addition to being a family heirloom and landmark, it is also my Aunt's home as she has a house on the property, as well as my 92 year old grandmother who has called this property home for at least 30 years and I can't imagine her having to spend whatever time she has left anywhere else.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
If anyone reading this can find this a worthy cause you will not only save this historical land but also a sentimental family legacy that means the world to me and my family.
Any money donated would be used to help pay the back taxes. Keeping the land is only the start because our family plans to take this further and restore it, bringing it back to its former glory for families old and new to enjoy. My Aunt has done her best to make what upgrades she can along the way we just need a little help now and we would be eternally grateful for anything anyone can donate or do to help in this endeavor.
