Save Shot In The Dark Cafe

With the decline of local business and the continued appearance of high-rises and student housing, Shot In The Dark Cafe has had to endure severe economic change. The Cafe persisted, and has managed to maintain it's space and identity up to this point. We had expected rent prices to increase, but have been struggling to meet the proposed 400% increase over the course of the next year.
After months of structural repairs done by us alone, we received an eviction notice requiring us to vacate by January 31st.
Shot In The Dark Cafe has been a cornerstone of the community for the last decade. Before being branded as Shot In The Dark, the building serviced the downtown area as a cafe for over 30 years. Shot has made a name for itself as being the only 24-hour worker-owned cooperative cafe in Arizona. The business has seen an ever changing flow of passionate owners over the years but has always stuck to a core belief, to create an always accessible, safe space for every person that walks through the doors. We have fought and continue to fight to give a voice to the disenfranchised, taking in LGBTQ, POC, activists, addicts, sex workers, and the displaced. A place where people can momentarily escape the harsh world and share ideas free from discrimination and judgement. The business is more than a cafe, it's more than a cup of coffee and big plate of homefries, it is a home. We are a family and our love for our community and each other keeps this cafe alive. We are going to fight, however long it takes, to save that home.
We are reaching out to our community for help relocating our establishment. Moving the cafe requires renting a Uhaul, acquiring a storage unit, and putting a down payment on a new space. Accomplishing all of this without income from the business will be a struggle. Monetary donations would be greatly appreciated but other contributions such as legal assistance and possible realty opportunities would significantly benefit our cause.
