Sandy Shores Farm is a memorial microfarm located in Deroche BC. We currently house and care for 20+ rescue animals alongside our own livestock. In our first season, we were able to produce 2500 pounds of vegetables and fruits that were dispersed among the local community free of charge. In our second year we became an unintended yet happy animal rescue, housing displaced 'pet' chickens, goats, rabbits, and our beloved white bunny, Clover.
In the past month we have been presented with both grand opportunities- and untimely challenges. The opportunities include a space to expand, a barn to utilize, and access to equipment which would give our little hobby/rescue farm a chance to be self-sustaining.
Given that we have been operating on a "no cash accepted" basis, we still work our day jobs to fund and maintain the farm. Unfortunately, we have encountered a lull during the season in which we usually save for winter- thus we are on the verge of losing our current location AND missing out on a grand opportunity to expand.
Our goal...
•Provide local and organically grown produce at minimal cost for our community in the coming season
•Continue to house and feed the animals and allow space to potentially adopt more
•Upgrade and re-roof the barn
•Upgrade current location to be a learning center, welcoming youth in the community to get a taste for food gardening and caring for animals.
•Create a more accommodating space for visitors

It would break my heart to see our efforts go to waste, and especially to have to rehome our beautiful goat boys, Sammy and Zorro. Having them in my life has been a joyous and therapeutic experience, helping me to overcome general anxiety triggered by PTSD.
Sandy Shores Farm is a memorial micofarm dedicated to my mother Sandy Lea. She lost her battle with mental illness in 2014 at the young age of 55. Our mission is, and always has been, to bring light to the positive impacts that food gardening has on mental wellness, and to share with the community.
