Save Our Tree

Donation protected
516 N 82nd St is home to an over 100 year old Exceptional Red Cedar Tree.  It is in danger of being chopped down, and neighbors are getting together to try and SAVE THE TREE!

This tree will be in danger of being chopped down when the city approves the splitting of a double lot in this Greenwood neighborhood.  The builder plans to split the lot, demolish the existing home, and has current plans to build two homes.

Our block and neighbors have been working hard to try and save this wonderful tree.  We have met with our city councilmember Mike O'Brien and our city SDCI planning office and have been informed that the current city law does not do anything to protect this tree when considering the step of approving the splitting of this double lot.  It is likely that this approval can happen any day now, and we are preparing to make our case in an appeal of this decision.

The application to appeal is $80.

What is necessary for our appeal:
1. attorney: prep, settlement negotiations, appeal itself
2. professional arborist, prep and testimony
3. land development expert, prep and testimony
4. architect, prep, design and testimony

Estimated cost for this is $15,000, however, we have raised $8000 so far and we are asking for support for the remaining.

If for any reason, we are not needing the entire amount or if we can prevent the tree from being destroyed without having to fully go to appeals, we will be donating the money raise to a non-profit organization, Plant Amnesty http://www.plantamnesty.org/
